Volkswagen Kombi :: iconic van says goodbye to the world

The Volkswagen Kombi has said its final goodbye to the world in a neat little video from the German car maker.

Titled "Kombi Last Wishes", the video, narrated by the iconic Volkswagen van herself in her final Last Edition guise, highlights the relationship between the Kombi and its many owners spread across the globe in a touching tribute that took six months to make.

Featuring specially trimmed seats, vintage white wheels and hubcaps, a special dash-mounted build plate and blue side window curtains, the Last Edition is a more than appropriate send off to the bus that, since its launch in Germany in 1950, has been a school bus, an ambulance, a fruit stand, and even a police vehicle.

After assembling over 1,560,000 units between September 1957 to September 2013, the last ever Type 2 (Kombi) rolled off the Volkswagen Sao Bernardo do Campo production line in Brazil on December 31, 2013, due to the country's introduction of more stringent safety regulations requiring all new vehicles feature anti-lock brakes and at least two airbags.
