2015 Jaguar XE to feature F-Type engine

The all-new Jaguar XE - which was teased by the British brand at the Geneva motor show in March and is set to go on sale globally by mid-2015 - has been confirmed to be offered with the company's 3.0-litre supercharged V6 engine, the same seen in the sporty F-Type Roadster and soon-to-arrive F-Type Coupe.

Jaguar describes the XE as featuring "a range of engine capacities and outputs for different drivers, including the F-Type's roaring V6".

In that cars the engine produces a healthy 250kW of power and 450Nm of torque in the entry-level versions, while the S models have 280kW and 460Nm, however no confirmation on the XE's power outputs at this point in time.

There's also no word on a supercharged V8 version, but any such car would likely prove an ideal competitor to the likes of the new BMW M3 and the upcoming new-generation Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG.

In the same information posted to the company's UK site, Jaguar also claims it will offer an XE model that emits "less than 100g of CO2 per kilometre", meaning an ultra-efficient diesel variant sipping around 4.0L/100km of fuel is likely. That engine will be sourced from the company's new line of "Ingenium" 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines that will power future Jaguars and Land Rovers.

The new XE will be the first Jaguar to be built upon aluminium underpinnings, and it will be constructed in the UK.
