2015 Nissan Murano teased

A shadowy teaser video has given us our first official look at the 2015 Nissan Murano ahead of its world premiere at next month’s New York auto show.

Billed as the “halo vehicle” in Nissan’s expanding crossover and SUV range, the third-generation Murano promises “a spacious, premium interior and advanced, purposeful safety and connective technology”.

The all-new Nissan Murano introduces the latest evolution of the brand’s design language that will influence the styling of future production vehicles.

Screenshots brightened using image manipulation software shed new light on the Murano’s body panels and confirm it takes its inspiration from the Nissan Resonance concept that debuted at last year’s Detroit auto show.

The Murano’s headlights share elements with of those of the 370Z, Altima and the facelifted Juke, while its boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights create a unique front-on appearance.

As with the Resonance concept, the new Murano is expected to feature a bold U-shaped grille with large badge positioned prominently on its nose.

The Murano also retains the concept’s distinctive disjoined D-pillar and floating rear roof design, infusing a sense of motion into the large-sized crossover.

The third-gen Nissan Murano is expected to carry over the outgoing model’s 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine and automatic continuously variable transmission combination, likely with upgrades to fuel efficiency and refinement.

The Resonance concept featured a hybrid powertrain, and the new Murano is likely to offer a petrol-electric option for the first time, with the most likely combination being a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine teamed to a lithium-ion battery, electric motor and CVT automatic - similar to the Altima Hybrid.

The third-generation Murano remains underpinned by Nissan’s D platform that is shared with the Altima and Pathfinder, though its body is expected to grow in length and width, and offer increased interior space for passengers and cargo.

The new Nissan Murano will debut in New York on April 16.

CarAdvice has contacted Nissan Australia about its plans for the new Murano, which is expected to arrive here in 2015.
