A second Ferrari-themed amusement park and the first hotel inspired by the Italian sports car brand will open in Spain in 2016.
Spanish tourism company PortAventura Entertainment, owned by Investindustrial, has signed a licencing agreement with Ferrari to build Ferrari Land – a sister park to the original Ferrari World that opened in Abu Dhabi in 2010.
To be located at PortAventura’s existing resort and theme park just outside Barcelona, the 75,000-square-metre Ferrari Land promises “a variety of attractions for Prancing Horse enthusiasts of all ages”, including Europe’s highest and fastest vertical accelerator.
The first Ferrari-themed hotel will also be based in the PortAventura estate, purportedly offering guests five-star luxury across 250 rooms, restaurants and a driving simulator.
The project will involve an overall investment of 100 million euro ($154 million) and is set to dramatically increase the number of visitors to PortAventura, which currently totals approximately four million every year.
Ferrari Brand CEO Andrea Perrone said Ferrari Land was an exciting addition to the Ferrari family.
“After the success of Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi, we received many, many requests to develop new amusement parks,” Perrone said.
“We carefully sifted through the various proposals and decided to accept Investindustrial’s because it is a very solid plan developed by competent people that will bring the magic of Ferrari to Spain, a nation where we have many supporters and enthusiasts, and to which large numbers of tourists flock each year. This new licence further underscores our brand’s presence in this area.
“Ferrari Land will delight the whole family and not just Formula One fans.”
Spain’s Ferrari Land will be about a third of the size of Ferrari World in the United Arab Emirates. Ferrari World features 21 rides, including Formula Rossa, the world’s fastest roller coaster, capable of reaching 240km/h.
