22K driveaway, well lets compare retail prices cause everyone is dipping below list price with out negotiating at the moment. Whats the list price on road???
its gotta be around 30K

Fair enough you never actually “claimed” better resale (i suppose i got a little carried away) but you put forward an assumption that they did.
All I pointed out in reply was that even with out 4000 Hyundais sitting at auction houses, their resale history is still shot.

Oh yeah and the going green thing,
these arent any greener than the current Lancers they were using.
Is this car on the top whatever green list??

Again, this is what I said on re sale.
I am only referring to what markets are popular now. All cars loose value, you know that. But if you want to reduce your loss you need to look at the up front cost and cost of ownership.

The retail price for a Hyundai Tucson is $21,990.00 drive away I am positive they would have paid less than the current retail drive away price. A far cry form $30k.

Andrew I never said it wasn’t, I did say there is a lot of other reasons other than sponsorship agreements.

you just reiterated what i said in terms of resale.

first you claimed that that these would have better resale, and then said nothing has resale…..

I acknowledge that resale on 6cyl models is typiclly not too good at the moment, but as i said, since when has Hyundai resale ever been any good???
Its certainly no better than Holden or Ford Resale.

Oh and if you want to know what does have resale, apparently F-Trucks do, and as i recently found out Mazda3’s fair bloody well against their competition aswell.

Saving on upfront purchase???
what are these worth??? Around the 30K mark???
Would get into a massive array of Mitsubishis for that price too

You know i could write a book just based on the used car market and perceived value of trades. I am only referring to what markets are popular now. All cars loose value, you know that. So what car does have good re sale value? I have never done a valuation and had a customer say
“Are you sure? That sounds like too much; i am willing to accept less if you like”
A V6 anything is difficult to sell new let alone used. Four cylinder cars are still selling well (Check Mazda 3 out selling Commodore in the last few months) Thus the “Green” statement by me. As i said also less insurance and registration. Check Australian Green Vehicle Guide for my source on fuel consumption.

ha ha ha the salesman makes reference to the over supply of used Comodores when time comes to trade in, how does something with a (publically percieved) poor long term reliability reputation go with resale after they go out and get all the fleets and hit the market at the same time???? Remember resale is a supply demand issue

Yes, smokinR32, quite literally a slow news day. These things are zippy to about 60-70km/h but ask one to overtake? Think again. The first time I had to pull in behind someone I tried to overtake was in a Tucson City, there was miles of room and the other car was only going about 70km/h!!

A Brilliant idea, maybve i should get my freinds at Perth airport to drive these around, But i dont work there anymore since Jim Montgomory got rid of me, I am still waiting for Lloyd Port-Lewis to meet me in the staff carpark at perth International Airport. Back to cars, I think Customs are going to do the same thing with their cars. I told Jim he cant fire me I quit. best thing i e3ver did.

It would be interesting to see spotlight’s running costs for these things vs smaller cars after a year or so. I would imagine they will struggle to be cheaper.
Sponsorship money is a wonderful thing isn’t it.

Thats what happens when you do a quick search for a couple of figures.

I see where I became mistaken on the 4×4 issue.
When i did a quick one to find the fuel figure I pulled up the 4X4 model Tuscon (11L/100k)

Then when i went back i pulled up the Tuscon city FWD, which was the one i reported as 9.9L/100k.

I assumed you could also get the lower spec City in 4X4 aswell, unfortunately not the case, my error.

but even in light of those corrections my sentiments still remain the same.

I think its silly to say this vehicle was chosen for green credentials or servicing costs let alone resale.

Im sure a windscreen and oil filter for a falcon would be a fraction of what the same parts for this would be

Andrew you do realise that the Tucson “City” is only FWD?
But agree on the tyres/servicing etc anyway.

And most of the Spotlight mobile service cars were 4cyl Jap cars anyway. The most common probably being Lancer wagons.

well my source must be dodge.
I found the tuscon at 11L but then realised it was the upper spec.
I went and checked again and this particular model in auto is displayed at 9.9L

I also found the green house rating to be 5.5

better resale than a commodore????
last time i checked hyundai resale is one of the worst.
have you seen resale on a once 20K Getz???
I also got a Hyundai in my other driveway which im looking at getting rid of, unfortunately also worth nothing

either way resale certainly aint any better

I think you will also find commodore and falcon tyres to be cheaper than 4wd tyres (which this wears) and dime a dozen parts can be said for falcons and commys, whereas the scarce amount of these vehicles on our roads means the opposite.
Also servicing 4wd’s is also more expensive.

Nice comparison, if they currently drove Commodores.

However the real comparison is not so cut’n dried:

Lancer wagon:
auto 8.9 l/100km & 211g/km, man 9.5 l/100km & 226g/km

Tucson City:
auto 8.0 l/100km & 190g/km, man 9.2 l/100km & 236g/km

So the smaller engined Tucsan is only slighty better, but hey, that’s marketing.
