2014 Toyota Aygo leaked ahead of Geneva motor show

The all-new, dramatically styled Toyota Aygo has been revealed in leaked images ahead of the 2014 Geneva motor show.

The Japanese brand's second-generation European-focused city car - which, like its predecessor, is the product of a joint-venture between Toyota and French makers Peugeot and Citroen - features a controversial new front end design, with an X-shaped styling swathe that stretches from the lower bumper to the central grille and badge then over the black upper surrounds of the headlights and up to the side mirrors.

Three different examples of the Aygo were revealed through leaked images posted on Carscoops, with black on orange, black on white and silver on black colour schemes for the sub-Yaris runabout.

The Aygo is a sibling to the recently revealed Citroen C1 and Peugeot 108, and all three of those city cars will debut at the Swiss show this week.

While its French siblings are to be offered in three- and five-door bodystyles, the Toyota may only be offered with the latter.

One image of the back of the car has also surfaced, showing the rear-end treatment for the Aygo is notably different to the 108 and C1, with large tail-lights spanning the edges of the rear glass, and a squat, angular rear bumper giving the car a broad-bottomed appearance.

Under the bonnet, Toyota is expected to offer similar powertrains to the other versions, with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with 51kW and a 1.2-litre triple with 6okW also offered.

The trio of cars is reportedly going to be produced in the Czech Republic.

Toyota Australia has already stated it has no plans to bring the Aygo to our shores.
