Holden appoints Gerry Dorizas new chairman and managing director

Gerry Dorizas has been appointed the new chairman and managing director of GM Holden.

A 22-year veteran of the global automotive industry, Dorizas will be charged with the task of overseeing the shutdown of Holden’s South Australian and Victorian manufacturing operations and guiding its transition from vehicle producer to full-line importer by the end of 2017.

Dorizas succeeds Mike Devereux, who was promoted to the role of GM consolidated international operations (CIO) sales, marketing and aftersales vice president in October but has remained in the top job at Holden while the company searched for a successor.

Devereux officially departs Holden four years after assuming the lead role in March 2010.

Dorizas becomes the seventh leader of General Motors’ Australian operations in little more than a decade, with Peter Hanenberger, Denny Mooney, Chris Gubbey, Mark Reuss, Alan Batey and Devereux all spending time at the top since 2003.

GM executive vice president and international operations president Stefan Jacoby said Dorizas was the right man to take the reins as Holden undergoes the biggest change in its history.

“Gerry has the right industry-leading experience and credentials to lead GM Holden through a significant program of change, as it transitions to a national sales company,” Dorizas said.

“GM International Operations (GMIO) is undergoing a transformation that is committed to driving our markets toward success. As part of this transformation, the GMIO team is working to build a global organisation with strong local passion, ownership and entrepreneurship.”

Jacoby also thanked Devereux for his leadership of Holden over the past four years.

Dorizas said he was excited to get stuck into his new role.

“Around the world, Holden is renowned for the strength of its product and professionalism of its people,” Dorizas said.

“I am energised by the opportunity to lead a talented and passionate team and to guide one of Australia’s strongest, most iconic brands into its next phase.”

Dorizas most recently served as Volkswagen Group India president and CEO, a role he held for two years.

He has also held executive roles with Fiat, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz and Toyota throughout Asia and Europe.
