Ford reveals Webber’s local wheels
March 31, 2009 by George Skentzos
Seemingly bursting with excitement, Ford has revealed our very own Mark Webber tore up the streets of Melbourne in a new FPV F6 310 during his brief stay for last weekend’s Australian Formula One Grand Prix.
Ford had remained tight-lipped on the Red Bull driver’s local wheels until Renault bosses had left the country, with Mark enjoying his time in the driver’s seat of the Australian-built muscle car.
A nostalgic Mark Webber handed the keys back to Ford this morning before jetting off to Kuala Lumpur for the upcoming Malaysian F1 Grand Prix.
“What a great car … this is what I miss in Europe … awesome Aussie muscle cars,” Webber said.
According to Ford, Mark last drove one of its cars back when he was with the now defunct Jaguar F1 team.

On Ya Webber.Aussie Cars Rock
A man of impeccable taste!!
Quote ““What a great car … this is what I miss in Europe … awesome Aussie muscle cars,” Webber said.”"
Yep you said it………….
Hmmm, so he has crap driving abilities AND taste in cars, eh?
bugger you beat me to it eotc , my sentiments exactly , probably stack it on the first corner
FG F6 is easily the best car ever made in australia. Mark would have enjoted it I am sure.
EOTC and Holstein Hore you are both retards. For one thing Mark is renowned as one of the best drivers in F1 its just that he has had bad cars and some bad luck, like on the weekend. He obviously has great taste in cars if he drove an F6…….there is really nothing else around that does it all so well as the FG F6. Why dont you drive one and see for yourself? On second thoughts dont go drive one because you dont deserve to drive a great car……stick with your pushrod V8’s , you are obviously Holden bogans.
Hahahaaahh my taste is beyond both those brands , give us a break hes lucky to get a drive .
Both dinosaur cars about to sent to the dustbin of junk dog cars , so not the future its excruciatingly funny .
Oh settle down Limited Slip. You ahve to admit, that line was just begging to be said, it was just hangin out there, waiting. Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.
I would love an F6, but I still wouldn’t let Mark Webber drive it :-)
Aussie cars are good for a laugh I admit.
Where else would you get a cheaply made, lo tech, powerful engine RWD in the world for under $65k?
BUT as long as you get to give it back, it remains fun.
Elitist – “Where else would you get a cheaply made, lo tech, powerful engine RWD in the world for under $65k?”
Well, no where really. But in many other parts of the world you could get a well made, hi tech, powerful engine RWD for under $65K :)
Australia, the lucky country lol!
Gee I guess Mark Webber wouldnt know a fast car if he fell over one,and he probably drives some piece of crap daily in England, that must be the reason he thinks and misses Australian Muscle Cars.
Who are you to judge him or his taste of cars.I would say hes done better than all of you on here bagging him and his drive . Who has more credibility here you guys or him…….
Come on BM, Webber has been in F1 since 2002 i.e. this is his 8th season, and has finished on the podium a grand total of…….once. One 3rd place. I’d say that makes him extremely lucky to still have a drive in F1. Have you ever heard of someone with so much ‘bad luck’ as him? You can’t keep blaming the cars or other circumstances, it does eventually have to come down to driving ability over that long a period of time.
They even take the piss out of him on Wikepedia, “he gained his biggest headlines while driving for the Mercedes-Benz sports car squad at Le Mans in 1999 where he had two spectacular accidents during practice and warm-up in which an aerodynamic fault caused the car to somersault off the Mulsanne Straight” . Says it all really when that’s your biggest headline and you’ve since had an 8 year F1 career……
Sounds like he is full of ricer excuses!
Hi Ford,
If you want to put me in one for a week i promise i wont tell Kia :)
Hey Dan is Golfie still pedaling back there?
Guys, keep this civil please.
Just appreciate his praise for Australian cars.
Maybe one day he might start to get results….he is like over rated and over publicised fully! Sorry but results “COUNT”
So Mark Webber is like the toyota of cars????
They have also had an 8 season spell in F1 that hasnt yeilded any results.
I agree he is due to show some results, but over the past 8 years the sport has been dominated by 1 or 2 makes.
In Webbers defence he has fallen outside any of the performing teams.
The true comparison is in how his team mates have stacked up
EOTC – finished ont he podium twice actually. Mark has never driven a competitive car, even still he put a jaguar (!) on the front row in qualifying twice, on both occasions his team mate qualified 12th and 16th. He also put his Red Bull on the front row in silverstone last year when his team mate didn’t even make the top 10 in qualifying, his team mate being none other then David Coulthard at his home GP.
Mark actually very rarely crashes by the way, which just goes to show how little of what you are talking about. Most of Mark’s retirements and his reputation for not finnishing came out of the 2006 and 2007 season when his Williams (2006) and Red Bull (2007) was dogged with poor reliability, the Red Bull in particular broke down in 5 GP’s in a row! The Williams also broke down when he was leading the Australian GP and sitting in third in Monaco while only 3 seconds off the lead.
Sebastien Vettel also drove into the back of Mark under the safety car (!) in Japan in 2007 while he was sitting in 1st and prior to the safety car had been 2 seconds a lap faster then Hamilton in 1st with 10 laps to go, would have almost certainly gone on to win the race.
People who don’t follow F1 shouldn’t comment because anyone who does knows that it doesn’t matter how good you are, you cannot win races without a good car, something Mark has NEVER had in F1. The fact he is still considered one of the best driver out there (was ranked by his peers as the 3rd best driver in F1 behind Alonso and Schumacher in 2006).
Learn the facts before commenting next time.
Imagine if webber joined the Toyota team, they would never win.
Andrew M – exactly, in Mark’s 8 seasons, he has finnished in front of his team mate in the championship in every season, and usually by a lot! On the way he has also effectively ended the careers of Antonia Pizzonia, Christien Klien, Justin Wilson and Alex Yoong, all where team, all where unable to get anywhere near Mark’s pace in either qualifying or the races.
Sorry it was 2005 he was rated as third best driver, and he was sitting in second behind the safety car when Vettel hit him with 10 to go.
By the way, old Jenson Button had only won 1 GP before Melbourne and that was a fluke of a win in the rain, and he has been in F1 a lot longer then Mark. I guess he is just shit then as well even though he just dominated the most recent GP… again its not how good you are, its the car your driving, everyone knows that….
Either way you dice up Webber,he is an Australian and there arent a handful of Aussies that have made it in F1,be proud of him being there in the first place . Like Australai and clearly the F6 that he seems so fond of.
Salesman babe, you take the car for the weekend and Ill take Webber ,Im sure I can put him to good use ;) ,you dont tell Wheelnut and I wont tell Kia ! hahahaha
Bavaria and Wheelnut are married?
also if he didn’t deserve to be there, he wouldn’t be, because he doesn’t have money behind him like certain other drivers.
Don’t know why I felt the need to defend him anyway, anyone who actually knows F1 knows that Mark is very very good. Is he the best? No (Alonso is) but he is definetly in the top 5
Richo, take it easy dude – don’t do a Dan on me and get all abusive.
Interestingly, nothing you have said makes any difference to the fact he has never won a race in 8 seasons. And again, that makes him very lucky to still have a drive. In saying that, he is obviously a talented driver to get to where he has, but perhaps he just doesn’t have what it takes to be the best. Have you ever considered the reason why he hasn’t gotten a drive in one of the top cars? Normally the best drivers get snapped up pretty quickly by the big boys – they’re not silly. Look at Schumacher – wasn’t he with Benetton before Ferarri? Hamilton came straight into McClaren – how come Webber hasn’t snagged something like that after 8 years? But good on him for getting to the level he has, but I think it’s bollocks to keep pretending he’s on the cusp of being a champion (as the media would have us believe).
EOTC said – “take it easy dude – don’t do a Dan on me and get all abusive”
ROFL! Behave!
EOTC – shows how little you know mate, Alonso IS the best, and isn’t driving for a top team. Massa drove for years in a crap Sauber, Villenuve was a world champion but drove for years for BAR who never won a race…. list goes on, you think you know F1 because you know the names of some of the sports big names? ofcourse they are winning races, they are driving for ferrari and mclaren.. thats only 4 seats mate! You surely don’t think there are only 4 people in the world capable of winning races in F1 do you? seriously?
and when did i get abusive?
The funny thing for all the ney sayers is that Shumacer (the winning one) rated Mark as the best driver in the worst cars! That has got to mean something!
Hey Richo, where you been,
get to the Forum and check your messages
Richo, you’re not making any sense mate? You didn’t counter any of the points I just put forward – you just started talking about other drivers. Yes, I quoted 2 big names for the sake of making the point, a pretty normal thing to do. I didn’t realise I would need to do a 1000 word essay articulating the highs and lows of the past 50 F1 drivers in order to make a quick point to you.
But anyway, look, one of the things I hate about this site is the silly emotional rants people get engaged in and next thing you know, there are 90 comments going back and forth, saying the same things over and over again. So let’s not go there. You’re obviously a passionate F1 follower, and have a soft spot for the sole Aussie in the field, and I can’t begrudge you for that. So let’s agree to disagree.
Wow Dan, you’ve worked the BM/Wheelnut one out at last, and I used to think you were at least the 7th sharpest tool in the box.
Very appropriate car for Webber to drive while in OZ. All you Euro badge snobs need to get a fix on what great value it is, and fantastic to drive. Yes, a bit rough around the edges (as you would expect at the price), but a real hoot.
Well Captain, I knew they were close mates, hence why I put them in the list of Usual Suspects in the first place. I’m still waiting to see a picture of the show pony though…
What do people expect him to say? There are PR issues at stake here!
My old boss owned an XT Falcon and a 550i – he drove the Falcon to site to be one of the boys, but in the city it’d gather dust while he drove the 550i.

Sorry, no excuse – if sub $40K cars can do it there’s no excuse for the Falcon.
Falcon,The Great Australian Road Car.
Webber knows a good thing!
Webber is unlucky for sure, but you also have to make your own luck.
On to the F6/Euro car thing, the closest BMW in size and price is the 520d or 523i, which have less power than an XR5 Turbo. The F6 has more power than anything its price from Europe. What would you rather, a decent, livable cabin and interior and 310kw (approx. 413hp) and 500+NM of torque through a manual or the best 6speed auto on the market, or a slow, big car with a great interior?
FPV has better resale than Lexus that’s for sure!!!!
Sounds like some retarted Holden lovers again show their jealousy of a real 2009 muscle car (irresespective of who is driving it). Get over it Lion boys!!!!!
Webber is a true, first class driver. There are only a very select few who make it to the top grade and if he wasn’t one of the very best in the world there are a plethora of test drivers who would gladly take his place.
Great to hear his praise of the Australian Motor Industry – a true Aussie he is.
EOTC – I didn’t counter your posts because I counted all of them in your above posts, maybe I didn’t spell it out that I was countering you, you have to think about it a bit, but to me your response appeared to basically ignore all of the arguments I put forward and you basically just repeated yourself.
Anyway whatever, you don’t like him but he has the respect of the F1 paddock, means a lot more!
EOTC – sorry, I countered you in my first post, not in your posts, typo.
Lexus has better resale than FPV that’s for sure!!!!
he is obviously getting paid for this……..
I think the picture says it all no need to say anything just look at the car its awesome, thay look realy good on the road and perform just as well what more can you wont
Something Renault or an F6…mmmmmmmmm hard decision there ! Not !
BigDog – because it would be impossible that he actually likes it then yeah? You do realise that some people like these kinds of cars… Mark grew up in the Australian car scene, as a result loves muscle cars, why would that be difficult for you to understand?
The question I want answered is does this mean Webbo is a Ford man???
Quote “does this mean Webbo is a Ford man??? “”
hahaha hell yeah…………arent all the celebrities ?
Maybe Ford are thinking about offering him a V8 Supercar seat next year – I mena at least he will be in a more reliable car and have a better chance of actually finishing which is what he deserves.
