No diesels no sales simple ill-thought out plan by incompetant management overseas.
Take Subaru - they were not getting anywhere without diesel donks not they have one sales are picking up, same with Honda, Mazda, Suzuki. What an obvious error to make.
However the 1.9 Tdi engine in the BLS was good enough and IMO is better than Fords diesel in the Mondo.

The past decades GM has failed to offer they buyers something like reliability, a history, a proven performance. The throw cars on the markets, then they withdraw again, then they try others and again withdraw.
The biggest mistake however was to employ Kroymans who completely overprized the cars. The new Caddies are absolutely great, by the way.

Phil, I'm talking from a marketing/sales point of view. Most cars sold in Europe are small cars. Not many people there drive large V8s or V6s. WHat I tried to say is, it woudl be a sales failure.

IMHO - Apart from the "Northstar" Quad-Cam 320Bhp V8 Engines [500 Bhp Supercharged] there really isn't anything about Cadilac that warrants their survival

GM have said that as part of their restructure; they're going to focus on designing and building cars that have a more "international" appeal - so they can be sold in more countries etc. If that's the case then why not Keep Saab and ditch Cadillac [Caddie-Yuck]?

Richo, size-wise the CTS is more a 5-series/E-class competitor, it is just priced at the high end 3-series/C-class area. I know its a very good car but Cadillac need a vehicle much smaller (BLS sized) car with RWD and adding a diesel in the mix wouldn't hurt either.

Also I don't think GM can do a Toyota and create a brand out of no where, they are overcrowded enough with the amount of brands they currently have: Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, Cadillac, Hummer, Saab, GMC, Saturn and that is just in the US.

If anyone is interested, the 100 Cadillacs which were to be the launch stock for Australia were sold as a batch to a New Zealand purchaser.

Myke - you mean like the Cadillac CTS? Which in every review I have read has stated that it is every bit the 3 series / C class competitor...

Alex - I agree, the problem was the lack of diesel's pure and simple

Personally I think there is too much stigma attached to the cadillac brand, GM would be much better off doing what Toyota did with Lexus and launch a brand new prestige brand that doesn't have any pre-existing stigma's and base the brand around the kind of state of the art technology that GM have proven every now and then they are actually capable of, just for some reason they keep taking the easy roads which really sh!ts me.

Problem is GM is years and years and years away from thinking about doing something like that because they have to drag themselfs out of the current mess they are in if they want to try and do that, which they won't because in true GM / USA fasion, it will all just go into the "too hard" basket.

Good riddance. Why on earth did Cadillac launch in Europe without good diesel engines? That's what will have ruined it for them. And at the end of the day, the only one that had much chance in Europe was the BLS and that's just a Saab 9-3 that looks worse and drives slightly worse as well. They never had a chance is what I'm trying to say. They could have, but like basically everything that's going wrong at GM right now, it's their own fault.
