Video: First Chevrolet Camaro off the line

By George Skentzos |

General Motors has pieced together a short clip of the construction and delivery of the very first Chevrolet Camaro which was purchased by the CEO of Hendrick Motorsports, Rick Hendrick.

While it would be nice to say this was filmed right here in Australia, in reality the manufacturing stage has been assigned to GM’s Oshawa Plant in Ontario, Canada.

The Elizabeth plant is more modern looking than the Oshawa plant!

The Holden factory is more modern and more flexible – I mean did you see any other model Chevys apart from Camaros being built.. whereas Holden builds Sedans Utes Wagons [Coupes] and LWB models one behind the other.

Dedicated production facilities like this with antiquated assembly lines is one of the reasons GM is in the situation they are at the moment.. when will they learn to take more advantage of the experience their subsiaries like Holden have to offer? IMHO Rick has got to go

Don’t anyone tell me that these things wouldn’t sell here in RHD. I’d be first to sign up for one.

Well this just might be the car to turn around GM’s misfortunes. It looks gorgeous and has a nice drivetrain, but as always interior quality is not up to scratch.

I see the Pontiac G8 had its best sales month ever in the US, up 27% in a segment thats down 40%. Looks like the word might finally be getting around.
