Qoros 3 hatch: China’s Golf rival revealed

China's all-new Qoros 3 hatch will take on the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus and other leading European small cars when it debuts at March's Geneva motor show.

The Qoros 3 hatch will become the second production model from the Changshu-based Israeli-Chinese joint venture, following the 3 sedan that launched in China and Slovakia in 2013.

The five-door hatchback is based on the same modular platform as the Qoros 3 sedan, which was named the ‘safest car of 2013’ by independent safety assessor Euro NCAP, after recording the highest crash-test score of any vehicle tested last year.

Like the sedan, the front-wheel-drive Qoros 3 hatch will be available with two 1.6-litre four-cylinder engines – 94kW/155Nm naturally aspirated, 116kW/210Nm turbo – paired with six-speed manual and dual-clutch automatic transmissions.

The hatch comes standard with the brand’s MMH (multimedia hub) infotainment system, which centres around an eight-inch touchscreen that is controlled using smartphone-style multi-gesture finger tap and swipe inputs.

High-grade models will feature the app-based ‘QorosQloud’ connectivity system, which connects to the internet to deliver navigation, social networking, audio, and vehicle monitoring services.

The 4.4m-long Qoros 3 hatch is almost 20cm longer than the Volkswagen Golf and features styling influenced by premium European models, including integrated LED daytime running lights and smoky LED tail-lights, and chrome highlights in the grille and lower intake, along the door sills and lower frames, and across the tailgate.

The Qoros 3 hatch will debut publically in Geneva on March 4 before launching in China and emerging European markets later in 2014.
