Infiniti Q50 priced from $51,990

The Infiniti Q50 will start at $51,900 when it goes on sale in Australia in February.

Infiniti Australia's mid-sized Q50 sports sedan will cost less than all of its key rivals, undercutting the Audi A4 ($55,500), BMW 3 Series ($52,300), Lexus IS250 ($55,900) and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class ($59,900).

The $51,900 price tag applies to the entry-level Infiniti Q50 2.2d GT, which will be offered at $55,900 driveaway between February 1 and April 30 as part of a special launch campaign. The Q50 shares its diesel engine with the Mercedes-Benz C220 CDI; a variant not sold in Australia, though one positioned directly between the $61,400 C200 CDI and twin-turbocharged $69,400 C250 CDI in overseas markets.

Sitting above the diesel variant is the Infiniti Q50 Hybrid, which starts at $67,900.

The Q50 2.2d will be offered in GT, S, and S Premium trim levels, while the Q50 Hybrid is available in the latter two specifications.

The Q50 2.2d's Daimler-sourced 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine produces 125kW and 400Nm, and claims combined cycle fuel consumption of 5.2 litres per 100km.

The Q50 Hybrid is the performance model of the range, producing a combined 268kW and 546Nm from its 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine and electric motor, and claiming 0-100km/h in 5.1 seconds and 6.8L/100km.

Standard features in the Infiniti Q50 2.2d GT include 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with daytime running lights, intelligent key with smart access and memory settings, climate control with auto recirculation, leather upholstery, electric front seats, drive mode selector (Standard, Snow, Sport, and Personal modes), and Infiniti’s ‘InTouch’ dual touchscreen displays including satellite navigation, digital radio and Bluetooth phone connectivity and audio streaming.

The Q50 S specification adds larger alloys (18s on 2.2d, 19s on Hybrid), sports front bumper, Direct Adaptive Steering with Active Lane Control, sports-tuned suspension and opposed-piston regenerative brakes (Hybrid only), magnesium-modified paddleshifters, moonroof, and a 14-speaker Bose premium audio system.

The Q50 S Premium specification introduces a host of driver-assist technologies, including active front lighting system with high-beam assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision avoidance and emergency braking, lane departure warning and lane departure prevention, blind spot warning and intervention, reversing collision intervention and 360-degree around-view camera-based monitoring system. The 2.2d S Premium upgrades to the larger 19-inch alloys, while the Hybrid S Premium exclusively scores all-wheel drive.

The Infiniti Q50 will hit Australian dealerships in the first week of February.
