Ford’s popular new Fiesta has won one of the world’s largest design recognition programs, Germany’s Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen “Red-Dot” award.

The award for best international product design was voted upon by 28 leading designers and design experts from 19 countries who acclaimed the Fiesta’s style as “innovative and dynamic”.

The independent jury assessed each entry against a series of criteria which includes innovation, design, functionality and quality. For the 2009 award, 3,231 submissions were received from 49 countries.

“This important award is now on the growing list of accolades given to the new Fiesta,” said Martin Smith, Executive Design Director, Ford of Europe. “It is particularly encouraging to see that our new small car was singled out for its innovative, expressive design by some of the world’s leading designers. Research shows that whether they are in Milan, Beijing or New York, customers put style at the top of their list. The new Fiesta delivers that style, together with outstanding quality.”

I can’t decide between the 3 or 5 door zetec?
I know the 5 door will be more practical but the 3 door looks so much better?
    what should i do ?

The other annoying thing is the cool blue or red dash is only available on the most boring body colours?

  2. Fiesta says:

I ordered the Zetec back in January, and it will not be here until August. Long bloody wait for a car, I thought with a new release, Ford would have supplied more.

  3. Blue Blood says:

This is one great looking car and it is going to be looking good for 5 years not 2 years like most small cars, ahead of it time.

    Go Ford

  4. Frontman says:

Strange isn’t it? Unlike every other manufacturer at present, the poor little factory that builds these things in Germany is pumping them out as fast as they can yet the order bank keeps growing!!!
Funny, I thought the experts this time last year were all predicting the demise of Ford???

  5. RoFlmaTiC says:

I think the sentiment was more regarding the demise of Ford manufacturing in Australia Frontman

  6. adam (aka mada) says:

And yet it’s a better vehicle than a yaris and all others to drive also :)

  7. Tom says:

No RoFlmaTiC, I remember when Ford were selling Jag and Landrover and Aston Martin (back when people would buy them) plenty of people were saying Ford would be the first of the big three to fall. Goes to show that keyboard experts really don’t know everything, and are stupid to think they do. It is a cracking good car, I hope that its availability improves, although given sales in Europe are increasing still, not likely until more plants retool to build it.

  8. Baji says:

Congratuations Ford. Ford has every right to be proud of all its achievements and accolades thus far. I just had a look at the ford range today, including the Fiesta, and all i have to say is that im mighty impressed with the quality of the materials and the design of the vehicles. The fiesta looks damn nice in the sheet metal, and i would go so far as to say that it probably has the best interior materials in the class. However, i must admit that the fit and finish was still not as good as the Jazz or 2. And the switchgear still felt quite cheap. But apart from that small problem, it is a bloody nice car. It would defintely be in my top two if i had to get a small vehicle.

  9. Frontman says:

Oh well Baji, just wait till next year when the Fiesta and the 2 start rolling off the same line, in the same country as the Jazz, then you won’t have ny decisions to make :-)

  10. Baji says:

LOL frontman. i was probably nit-picking before. Well two things can come out of that arrangement – the fit and finish of the fiesta will be right up there with the jazz and 2, (which would obviously be a good thing) or the 2 will be on par with the fiesta (which would be favoarable to the little ford). i don’t think thai manufacturing is that bad. A lot of hondas a made in thailand and the quality isn’t too bad. Its all down to quality control i say. and with fords smaller stake in mazda, i hope mazda has a bit more say over the quality control policies if both companies plan to use the same manufacturing line.

  12. Andrew M says:

anyone seen any shots of the interior in the new focus due in May???

I am also predicting the new Mazda 3 due in april to be one cracker of a car

  13. Phil C. says:

Fiesta, if you are correct in saying that you ordered in January and the car will not be delivered to August I would be checking with the dealer again. I’ve heard there is a wait, but it’s about 2 months…

Great car, selling at a rapid rate around the world. Well done Ford for yet another terrific desirable vehicle.

  14. Andrew M says:

wait till the econetic hits our shores….

it will shame the prius for the economics by a country mile and still give you a great design

  15. Phill says:

Another one for the Trophy cabnet.Fords realy pulled there finger out in the last 10 years(besides the US),starting with the first model focus.Antispamword – Smart, again!!

Brochures are at the Dealerships now, not much change just Mondeo LX style centre dash and XR5 style HMI screen. Plastics are softer and nicer, quality is up but most won’t notice by looking.

  17. Zorro says:

Ford are building some brilliant cars now – including our own Falcon, and this will continue with the fantastic new Focus. Ford have turned the corner and are on the rise.

  18. Andronicus says:

I agree, Ford seem to be really headed in the right direction and I am really enjoying the products that are coming out of this ‘Kinetic Design’ brief.
