Limited Edition Subaru Liberty GT spec.B R

By George Skentzos |

Subaru is offering a special edition version of its flagship turbocharged Liberty GT spec.B sedan and wagon for a limited time, featuring an ochre leather trim interior as standard.

Officially named the Liberty GT spec.B R, it will be limited to just 50 examples nationwide, all boasting a black exterior finish with the choice of a six-speed manual or five-speed SPORTSHIFT automatic transmission.

These special edition models also feature a subtle black honeycomb grille, which distinguishes them externally from the standard versions.

Nick Senior, Managing Director, Subaru Australia, said: “Subaru’s performance special editions are renowned for their retained value and with just 50 of these Liberty GT spec.B Rs available, we anticipate significant interest.”

Inside, the ochre leather trim also covers the door panels and centre console lid, complimented by silver alloy-type interior highlights.

The Liberty GT spec.B R special edition is available now from Subaru dealers, priced from $56,990.

Please note, official images of the special edition model are yet to be made available, the above image is for illustrative purposes only.

Is it me, or does Subaru always release “limited edition” Spec B Liberties every few months? Not that theres anything wrong, of course.

The Liberty has always been a quiet achiever, and a favourite in my books. Very handsome looks, plus drives well.

You’re right Iz Subaru have had a number of limited edition Liberties over the years based on the current model including an impressive STi Version

I’d say this is just Subarus way of saying “If you like the Look of the Liberty get one whilst you can”
Because they probably realise that upcoming model is ugly -like all the other current Subies.

  • Andy

Nah, not ugly. Visually challenging. But seriously, they need to stop getting anime cartoonist to design their cars. I half imagined the 2010 Liberty transforming like in that Citroen ad.

Love the Liberty. They have aged so well, it still looks outstanding in 2009!

  • Shak

really want this car as it is reliable and drove one recently and the exhaust causes feelings in certain areas. Looks good as well, also good retained value.

  • Frenchie

Great car, as said quiet achiever.
Unfortunately its new shape will betray it!

Why is Legacy called as Liberty in Australia? There’s no difference between two cars.
The next generation Legacy is coming soon. So no need to buy this old one.

  • Tim

^^ Subaru changed the name due to an organiztion in Austraia called “Legacy Australia” which aids veterans and their families during and after wars.

Nice of Subaru to do that!

Enjoy the last few variations of liberty while you can…

ugly one is coming to australia at the end of the year!!

  • UK

No, I dont think the new Legacy/Liberty is ugly. You guys just saw the concept model. The production version looks very nice. Might beat Camry and Accord ^^

With respect to the name Liberty as opposed to Legacy, as described by an older (mid to late 50′s) Australian (caucasian) ***Subaru*** salesman (yes the company salesman himself) who told me when I bought my first Liberty GT after I asked this very question of differing names, and I quote:

“…we would not let those jap b@stards use the name Legacy here…”

the ‘we’ to which he was referring was Legacy Australia with whom he had a strong affiliation and the ‘here’ is in Australia.

And that my friends is every word of the truth.
