Victorian Government’s New Road Safety Strategy
May 9, 2007 by Alborz Fallah
Today is a bright day for the people of Victoria as the Victorian government is preparing a new road safety strategy and would like to know what you think.
Two public forums will be held on:
- 16 May 7pm @ Best Western Tudor, 1101 Whitehorse Road, Box Hill – 9881-8895
- 17 May 7pm @ Flemington Racecourse Even Centre Skyline Room 0 – 9313-1367
If you are unable to attend the forum, you can always register and voice your opinion at www.arrivealive.vic.gov.au
As much as we would love to support this forum, there are some major issues already apparent with the agenda behind the whole event. If you visit the website, and attempt to complete the survey you are presented with some rather odd choices.
For example, for several of the issues (speeding and drink driving among them) increased education or increased training is not listed as an option. Instead the only choices you have are the ones listed above.
Choices which are all based on creating more fear to force drivers to slow down as oppose to education drivers. Not exactly a forum with an open mind?
However, please do complete the survey and use the ‘Other’ option and put in some ideas for the Victorian government to find a real solution for speeding issues in the means of better driving training and education.
There are also a great deal of details regarding the new high powered vehicle restrictions for p plate drivers available.

Total flag-waving PR bullshit, of no use and & *they* will NOT take any notice of what the public need or want.
The ONLY thing they are interested in is $$$$$$$ and how to scam more of it out of us.
Speed Kills, yeah right and speed cameras save lives:-)
Cheers

Agree 100% OttuAu, but its a start, and I think the more people like us show up and remind them that we are not all stupid, and we are not all going to buy their “Speed kills” slow down BS,
the more they might take notice,
this is the same problem all around the world, motorists are getting fed up with the revenue raising agenda.
The one simple solution is a DONT F&**^ING SPEED !
Is it really that hard ? If you see a sign saying 110 and your doing 120 fair enough you deserve a kickin the ass but the bottom line is revenue or not you will only get pinned and fined if your speeding! Yeah dodgy cameras , speedo’s, What to say to police its all bullshit and the simple answer is Common sense on the road.. People are falling further and further into the governments hands with their PR shit ” About speed kills” well durrrrr any speed will kill givin the circumstances its all about driver education (as mentioned in the article) and nothing to do with the speed your going but the one thing is there are laws that state speed limits so unless you want to fill the government coffer do the speed indicated but even if your doing 40 in a 100 zone you can still die no matter how fast or slow!
I think the priority should be to increase the penalty for australian drivers that simply brake the law, we are talking about the risk of loosing lifes in the road. So for sure the new safety rules are more than welcome. Well done for the Victorian goverment. I hope the NSW goverment follows.
