Nissan GT-R Nismo: dealers take orders for unconfirmed supercar

Australian customers have already placed orders for the Nissan GT-R Nismo – before the car has even been confirmed for our market.

Nissan Australia CEO and managing director Peter Jones told reporters at the local launch of the Nissan Altima that there had been an immediate reaction from prospective buyers of the 441kW Japanese supercar following its unveiling at last week’s Tokyo motor show.

“I’ve taken a lot of calls,” Jones started. “I’ve already had a dealer ring me and say, ‘I’ve got five orders already for the GT-R Nismo, so are we getting it?’ The answer is clearly, ‘No, not yet’.

Jones says there is no update to Nissan Australia’s position on the GT-R Nismo or other Nismo vehicles, which he promises will be offered at some stage, though says timing is still up in the air.

“Nismo is one of those things we’re studying and there’ll be a time and a place for Nismo in Australia,” he said.

“Right now we’ve just launched two other models (Juke and Pathfinder), we’re launching this one (Altima) and next year we’ve got a number of cars that we’re launching as well, so we’re really concentrating on that.

“Some of the new cars that we’re bringing out now … Nismo would enhance – the Juke and others, with add-ons that would enhance that vehicle – and it’s something that we’re going to look at but have made no decisions on time.”

The GT-R Nismo joins the Juke Nismo and 370Z Nismo as models already available under Nissan’s performance sub-division in other markets.

The car maker also took the wraps off the Juke Nismo RS production car and the Pulsar Nismo concept at last week’s LA auto show as it continues to expand the brand.
