GM launches websites to clear the air

By Matt Brogan |

GM has launched two websites to clear the air on its financial situation in a further effort to dispel some of the rumours surrounding its fate.

The websites named ‘GM Facts and Fiction’ addresses concerns and FAQs about the brand’s future in both North America and Europe.

“News and opinion about GM Europe, Opel, and Vauxhall is everywhere – TV, press, online sites and blogs. There is some fair and informed reporting supported by facts but unfortunately there is also misinformation, uninformed opinion, myths and urban legends that we read and hear,” GM’s Denis Chick said. “To encourage fact-based reporting and informed discussion we have just launched a site where we list some of the more popular myths and answer them with facts.”

The websites tackle such concerns as GM’s viability plan for Opel and Vauxhall, the state of its North American operations and the role of US government aid.

To have a look for yourself, click here for the US site and here for the European site.

Go on everyone, search for ‘Holden’ or ‘Australia’ on either site.
Speaks volumes. We really don’t rank.
The only way to clear the air in my book is to open a window.
In GMs case they’ll have start removing walls!

WVB I suspect that GM will eventually create a similar website for issues relating to Holden and its Future. you must remember that these sites have only just recently been created
Holden don’t Rank – so why are they so heavily involved in the design research and development of a number of GM Projects such as the Camaro.. If GM didn’t think Holden had the “ability” surely they would have kept it all “in house” [Detroit]?

  • WVB

^Wheelnut, I understand what your saying, maybe….. but ‘clearing the air’ on global scale includes australia.

If what your saying is true by suspecting a delayed ‘holden version website’ we probably dont rank otherwise we’d be standing right there now with a bandaged head, limping and playing the pipe and all on the US site like the 51st state we are.

The GM taxpayer bailout bucks in America are ringfenced to exclude the overseas affiliates. Ask the average American taxpayer for the answer to “What’s Holden?” and the next question will be “Where’s Australia?”
Whether GM sinks or swims, Holden has a seriously challenging future.

  • Cupid Stunt

I personally have never doubted the future existence of GM or subsidaries. They make car they sell them, this is nmore to do with financing pensions and borrowing money as less to do with products. Yes GM appear to be slow on the uptake of getting demanded products into the showrooms but time will tell when current plans are invoked.

WVB is right, the fact Australia doesn’t get a mention is proof positive if ever any was needed.

For all you dyed in the wool Holden fans that continually call Holden an “aussie icon” and “Australia’s own” (superbly encouraged by General Motors USA) perhaps this article will finally open your eyes to your misplaced sense of patriotism.
