Jack Fast,

The Peugeot Citroen Petrol engines you\'re referring to are identical to the Mini engines, and yes, they use twin scroll turbo chargers. I don\'t know why some media writers say the Peugeot ones suffer turbo lag - they don\'t in my experience. This article introduces the petrol engines: http://tinyurl.com/ymt6vb

The Peugeot Citroen 1.6 diesel named DV6 TED4 (as used in the Cooper D which I was referring to earlier) is only a single variable geometry unit as per http://tinyurl.com/DV6TED4

I thought a turbo diesel would make more than 260Nm when the same displacement petrol can make that much torque

D, I wasn't aware that the Peugeot or Citroen used a twin scroll turbocharger which would make all the difference by all but eliminating turbo lag which I've heard the Peugeot's suffer a little from.

"the 1.6-litre turbo diesel powerplant produces a staggering 260Nm during “Overboost”, and will be the fastest accelerating diesel in its capacity class in the country."

This engine is not exactly new. It's the same engine which has powered the Peugeot 207 HDi, 307 1.6 HDi, 308 1.6 HDi, and Citroen C4 1.6 HDi in Australia for a couple of years. It performs very well in the 207 and C4 I have driven (both at least 200kg heavier) so I am sure it will be a great engine to drive behind in a Mini.

Jack Fast you are looking for an argument and you will look silly.
Read it again, in context.
"Moreover, CO2 emissions will fall to just 104 g/km, while the 1.6-litre turbo diesel powerplant produces a staggering 260Nm during “Overboost”, and will be the fastest accelerating diesel in its capacity class in the country."

Everyone can see for themselves the adjective "staggering" was used in direct reference to "260Nm during “Overboost”".
My response is accurate.

Simon,

you clearly have not read the article properly mate, 260Nm is indeed "staggering" when you factor in the performance, fuel economy and C02 emissions.

"Are you suggesting that the i30 target market is the same as the MINI Cooper S Cabrio?"

Who said anything about "target market"? Please don't distort my comments.
It was your observation that 260NM from a 1.6TD is "staggering". My point is it really isn't.

Simon not sure what you are getting at with your comment, the fact is that 260Nm is more than 255Nm and I wasn't aware that the i30 was available in a Cabrio body.

Reckless, if you wanted a compliant ride in a MINI Cabrio, you wouldn't opt for the Copper "S" variant.

That said, "the ride is firm but never harsh" and on a car with a wheelbase as short as the MINI, I couldn't imagine it any other way.
Cheers
