Ferrari 458: Niki Lauda special revealed

A unique Ferrari 458 Italia celebrating Austrian Formula One legend Niki Lauda has been revealed by the Italian car maker.

Personalised by Ferrari for an owner, the red 458 Italia harks back to the Prancing Horse's mid-1970s racecars with an Italian flag emblazoned on its white roof. White accents on the front bumper, side skirts and rear spoiler compliment the theme along with gold alloy wheels.

Inside, the tricolour pattern again features on the red-stitched black leather seats and central tunnel, with red stitching also appearing on the dashboard, instrument panel and steering wheel.

The product of Ferrari's Tailor Made personalisation program, the Italian car maker says the owner of the 419kW/540Nm 4.5-litre V8-powered 458 wanted to make it unique "by paying tribute to one of the happiest and most productive eras in the history of the Scuderia". Lauda won the 1975 and 1977 driver's championship for Ferrari before sealing his third title in 1984 for McLaren.

The one-off Lauda special coincides with this year's release of 'Rush', the Ron Howard film that tells the story of the rivalry between Lauda and Briton James Hunt during the 1976 F1 season.
