CarAdvice spies 2010 SsangYong Actyon in Melbourne, Australia

March 13, 2009 by Paul Maric

CarAdvice has spied SsangYong’s new Actyon undergoing drivetrain testing in suburban Melbourne, ahead of its release later this year.

New SsangYong Actyon

The finished, pre-production model, fitted with Drivetrain Systems International’s six-speed automatic gearbox was spotted driving through peak hour traffic outside of Melbourne’s CBD.

The outgoing Actyon suffered from design flaws – you could say – so you can bet your bottom dollar that the new model will look much better. Not that it would be all that hard to achieve.

The vehicle in the picture above is the same vehicle seen testing overseas in freezing conditions. Fitted with a left-hand-drive drivetrain, the front end of the vehicle pictured features the Actyon’s new design.

CarAdvice will keep you posted with any further developments. The same company working on the new Actyon, which recently stood down 400 workers, is also tinkering with Mahindra’s Pik Up, which is also likely to get a revised model in the near future.

Vast improvement. Leave the covers on.

New Ssangyong? Didn’t they go broke?

  5. My Eyes, this Liberty prototype does nothing! says:

Now is actually a good time for Ssang Yong to launch a new model, as Subaru has been busy cementing their spot as maker of the world’s ugliest cars.

  6. B-Man says:

I dunno, Mercedes seem to be driving pretty hard towards the ugly basket. The new E-class is just awful.

  7. JEKYL & HYDE says:

  8. Carl says:

Yes i totally agree with the previous comments and would encourage ssangyong to develop covers like these retroactively for some of their previous models……not so much for the owners BUT for the rest of us that see them from the outside of their cars.

  9. The Salesman says:

I bet i looks awsome and blows the critics away. (I thought i would say that just in case)

  10. Frontman says:

That doesn’t look like a very prosperous hanger. The photo with the old model in it, is that a Mahindra Pik-Up Dual cab parked beside it????
As for the new model, roof line looks more conventional rather than the fast back design coppied by BMW ;-)

  11. RALLYX says:

CarAdvice, is this definitely the new Ssangyong Actyon, or could it be the new KIA Sportage? You guys may have made a booboo!
Please refer to the link http://www.kia-world.net/index.....spy-shots/

Both cars look very similar. Look at the detail on the side-view mirrors and integrated indicators, wheel arch molds, roof rail mounting positions, tail lights, exhaust tips, head lights, lower air-dam intake, front lower air diffuser…..they all look identical on each car. Could KIA be supplying new cars to SsangYong, or could CarAdvise be mistaken about the identity of this vehicle, or could they be correct, and the spies in Korea have mistaken this for a KIA Sportage. You decide for yourselves.

  12. lazybones says:

“Vast improvement. Leave the covers on.” … very good :)

    I was just thinking that

  13. RoFlmaTiC says:

Rallyx – compare the windows on the 4th pic of this page to that of the sportage and you can see a difference.

Other than that though, I can see where you’re coming from!

  14. Dan says:

Oh dear. This is probably the most disguised spied car I’ve ever seen. I agree with others, they should keep those covers on. It will be another ugly Korean, as usual. Ssang Yong is a joke!

  15. Frontman says:

Good call Rallyx, however I’ll side with CA here. Look hard at the second last photo on this one,(and the 2nd last one on your link). The imprint of the badge is Definatly SSangyongs 3 circles. But they are the same vehicle. Maybe SSangyong has found a buyer??

  16. Bret says:

Dan, Just more anti-Korean drivel. I’m not particularly a fan of anything that comes from there either, but man you always have to throw in a negative comment.

Why are you so threatened by the Koreans?
Is it you alliegance to Toyota/Lexus?
Do Toyota feel threatened that much that they have to use forums like this to continually sling mud?

  17. Dan says:

Bret, you can’r argue with the fact that Ssang Yong are producing the most ugliest cars ever made. You can’t. It’s not even an opinion but a fact. Never met anyone who actually liked the way they look, and I am surprised they even make any sales at all.

I am not affiliated with toyota in any way. Ever since I started reading CA, all I always saw was the anti- toyota drivel being posted by the usual suspects bavaria, wheelnut and so on. Got sick of reading it over and over again in every single article. So I figured lately that I will immitate their attitude and posts, and go against the Koreans. To be honest, personally I do hate them, but I also do not care about what they do as I am not interested in that sort of market. Hope that explains it :)

  18. Tim says:

Dan, a bad looking car doesn’t make it a ‘joke’ for your information. There are some fantastic cars out there that look bland, but it doesn’t make them jokes does it.

Agree with the constant anti-toyota posts though, this place is like a playground sometimes. But who can blame them, Toyota do make boring cars and sell a shed load of them.

  19. RALLYX says:

‘RoFlmaTiC’ I don’t mean to sound incompetent but what window are you referring too. Do you mean the small quarter window on the rear doors? When you say the 4th pic of this page, are you counting 4 pics down, or are you counting left to right then and down. Sorry mate you have me confused with which pic you are referring too.

‘Frontman’ do you mean the badge on the front! If so you must have better eyes than me as I can’t see 3 circles. But as you say they may be the same car and Ssangyong has found a new buyer or a new supplier.

What’s CarAdvise’s thoughts to my question in my first post. Can you confirm that it is a Ssangyong?

  20. RoFlmaTiC says:

Ah I mean the pic with the boot open.

I was counting left and right and then down :)

    Actually…

I just had another look at the pics and that particular pic definitely looks like a different car from the rest so you might be right!!!

  21. Dan says:

Tim – “Agree with the constant anti-toyota posts though, this place is like a playground sometimes. But who can blame them, Toyota do make boring cars and sell a shed load of them.”

I’m guessing that the reason for Bavaria’s and Wheelnut’s envy of Toyota’s success haha. Jealousy makes people say and do funny things…

When I say joke, I mean it looks like a clown car. Ugly or funny looking.

  22. Paul Maric says:

    RALLYX:

They are the same vehicle, I suspect the guys you have linked to have it confused for a Kia.

It’s certainly a SsangYong. Our sources have confirmed Kia are not testing any new vehicles in Australia at the moment and the workshop which housed this vehicle and the other prototypes doesn’t build equipment for Kia, but they do for SsangYong.

    Dan:

Please keep your comments on-topic, otherwise you will find yourself banned from the site.

  23. Captain Mainwaring says:

I like the Ssangyong Actyon, because it looks so much better than the car that was copied off it – the BMW X6.
    Over to you BM (+)(+)

  24. Cupid Stunt says:

GO to spain and you’ll see Sanyongs far more frequently. Dunno why possibly they are cheap to buy or the SPanish are tasteless.

  25. realcars says:

Rexton possibly best looking of an ugly bunch.Superb Merc designed diesel and auto.

  26. Stevothedevo says:

I can imagine what happens in the Ssang Yong factory. A handful of people put the car together and the rest hit it with the ugly stick as it rolls down the production line.

  27. RALLYX says:

To Paul Maric: thanks for your response to my question; is it a SsangYong or a KIA. If your sources are correct about it not being a KIA then the guys on the next link I have posted here must be mistaken about it being a KIA too. Read their article as they mention that they first thought the car was a SsangYong C200 but now believe that it is in fact a KIA Sportage. This is also the same car you guys snapped. http://www.worldcarfans.com/90.....n-the-snow

  28. Jose says:

    RALLYX

See the proto or mule at the photo http://www.caradvice.com.au/wp.....334_19.jpg
An you will find the same rear suspensio and the same dual piper , exactaly like the spy photos of the suposed to be a KIA. I believe this is a SSANGYONG in fact.

  29. Jose says:

    RALLYX.
I think the guys of worldcarfan are wrong. This is not a KIA it’s a C200 by SSANGYONG…..
