Nissan X-Trail, Pathfinder Hybrid, Pulsar SSS sedan coming Q2 2014

The new Nissan X-Trail, Pathfinder Hybrid and Pulsar SSS sedan have been confirmed for Australian showrooms in the second quarter of 2014 as the Japanese car maker continues the renewal and diversification of its local line-up.

Nissan has also announced the trio will be followed by the second-generation Dualis, which is to be renamed Qashqai in Australia to bring our market into line with most other regions around the world.

The third-generation Nissan X-Trail – unveiled at last month’s Frankfurt motor show – will be available with seven seats for the first time, effectively replacing the Dualis+2, which will not have a successor in the new-generation Qashqai range.

Sitting above the new X-Trail will be the Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, which teams a 2.5-litre supercharged four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor for peak outputs of 186kW of power and 329Nm of torque.

Nissan claimed combined cycle fuel consumption of 9.1 litres per 100km for the four-wheel-drive Pathfinder Hybrid and a range of 785km at its New York auto show unveiling, and says cabin and cargo space are unaffected by the addition of the lithium-ion battery and other hybrid components.

Nissan Australia will also attach the SSS badge to the Pulsar sedan in the second quarter of next year following the reintroduction of the Pulsar SSS ‘warm-hatch’ in June.

The Nissan Pulsar SSS sedan will employ the same 140kW/240Nm 1.6-litre direct injection turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine as its hatchback sibling, and will wear a similar circa-$30K price tag.

The new models will launch just months after Nissan introduces the Juke and Pathfinder SUVs this month and the Altima sedan in November.

Nissan Australia’s sales are up 1.2 per cent so far this year to 59,460, putting the brand on track to sell around 80,000 cars across the country in 2013.
