Ferrari sells its 1000th car in Hong Kong

By Matt Brogan |

In somewhat random news this morning Ferrari has held a special ceremony to mark the 1,000th Ferrari delivered in Hong Kong.

Over 65 international media from Hong Kong, Macau and the adjacent markets gathered on Victoria Harbour to celebrate the milestone for Ferrari in the Asia-Pacific region.

The new 612 Scaglietti ‘One-To-One’ handover ceremony took place in a truly unique way – on board a ‘Huan’ (a Chinese Junk).

The new owner Mr Didier Li was said to be delighted, if not a little overwhelmed, by all the fuss of the unique and exclusive ceremony.

Ferrari delivered 115 cars in to Hong Kong for 2008 and 1,089 cars across the whole Asia Pacific region; Japan continues to be the primary market for Ferrari with 433 cars delivered to clients in 2008, an increase of 15 percent, while more than 200 cars were delivered in China for the first time, an increase of 20 percent on 2007 to 212.

it is bizarre that they have such a market for these cars in Japan in particular. Once you are off the main roads, a lot of the city roads are tiny, many with no footpaths, and really barely enough room for 2 cars to go abreast. With the width of the ferraris, I’d have thought they would have real trouble getting around.

Singapore is much worse than Hong Kong and Japan… no matter where you go there will always be people with money who want high performance cars

every time I’m there I’m certain to see stuff like two Ferraris having a dice in fairly dense traffic

I think I lost count of the number of AMG Mercs in the city.

Yeah, I have a few sort of friends who are singaporean, one (a young lady) has a worked gallardo. I am told you have to pay a fortune to buy a licence to allow you to buy the car, before you even get to buy the car itself.

In those sort of places, high performance luxury cars are bought for the glamour, not for the passion. So it makes sense for these cars to be bought so that they get stuck in the traffic, on narrow roads, or spend most of the time parked rather than driven, to attract maximum attention and envy.

Yep ABC your right there,it is a status symbol,to show how well your business is doing. Each time Ive been to Hong Kong I cringe when I see the Glamor cars driving around in the bedlam of Kowloon traffic. There is no where to park ………

ABC – no different to what I see in Broadbeach or Main Beach, Gold Coast, where a lot of the best cars are driven by nouveau riche who have absolutely no idea what they are driving beyond the badge.

and here people were thinking the Asians had no taste eh?

    :)

People who buy cars like this and waste them by poncing around in traffic jams should be taken behind the bike sheds and dealt to.

  • demonaz

Hahaha bitter jealousy; suck on it Captain Mainwaring.

Bizaar – taking delivery of your car on a old tub-of-a-boat where you can’t drive it. I’d be p1ssed off.
