Melbourne CBD car parks to get safety-rating system

March 11, 2009 by Matt Brogan

Melbourne’s CBD car parks are to receive a safety-rating system to help motorists better select parking areas with good lighting, security, that are staffed during opening hours and contain CCTV cameras.

The joint announcement by Melbourne Lord Mayor Robert Doyle and Victoria Police CBD Superintendent Stephen Leane not only hopes to improve the security of vehicles, but that of motorists’ safety.

Statistically Melbourne’s CBD car parks see about 3000 cars broken into or stolen each year, a trend the safety-rating system hopes to see decrease.

Further details of the system are yet to be released, but as always, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Would not the money spent on making sure these ratings were politically correct be better spent on improving the lighting and security of said car parks?????

No, because people would complain that “oh this carpark costs too much!” without realising that all costs(including security) have to be covered!
