Honda Australia has introduced capped-price servicing for select models in its range across its national dealer network.

Honda‘s capped-price servicing program – valid for the first five years/100,000km of ownership, whichever comes first – applies to Accord (MY2013), Civic hatch and sedan (MY2012), CR-V (MY2013), CR-Z (MY2012), and Jazz Hybrid (MY2013) models onwards.

While the non-hybrid Jazz, City, Insight, Accord Euro, Legend and Odyssey models are currently not covered by capped-price servicing, Honda Australia public relations manager Melissa Cross says the program will expand to include all variants within roughly 12 months as updates and new models are released. The Odyssey people-mover will be the next model added to the program when it arrives here in the first quarter of 2014.

The capped-price servicing program is applicable to all servicing tasks outlined in Honda owners’ maintenance schedules and service manuals, for cars driven under ‘normal’ conditions. While servicing tasks will have a set maximum price, Honda dealers may choose to charge owners less. Servicing is required to occur every 10,000km or six months, whichever occurs first.

Included in the program is what Honda calls ‘adaptive’ servicing, which requires items such as dust and pollen filters, air filters and brake fluids to be serviced only when necessary, so drivers who travel low kilometres and tend to rely on their cars less will face reduced costs of ownership. Adaptive servicing is not, however, optional – once a car indicates it requires a service, this must be arranged – and comes at an additional cost to owners, although the services provided are themselves capped in price too.

Honda is one of the last mainstream manufacturers to introduce capped-price servicing in Australia, though the Japanese car maker’s program runs retrospectively, meaning certain cars bought before today will still receive the program’s benefits. The program is also transferable to any owner of a Honda that is within the program’s time/distance/model limits.

Honda says it reserves the right to adjust the prices of the capped-price program at any time, so it is advisable owners keep up to date with the latest costs for their car.

Examples of how Honda’s program works:

Total cost of servicing over three years/60,000km of ownership:

2013 Civic VTi-S 1.8L manual hatch: $1551 (min $240, max $277)
2013 Civic DTi-S 1.6L manual hatch: $1916 (min $305, max $318)
2013 Accord VTi 2.4L automatic: $1573 (min $246, max $283)
2014 CR-V VTi 4WD 2.4L automatic: $1587 (min $246, max $283)
