Hyundai Genesis Coupe: 1000hp SEMA concept revealed

A 746kW (1000hp) concept version of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe has been revealed ahead of its debut at November's 2013 SEMA aftermarket show in Las Vegas.

Built in conjunction with California-based Bisimoto Engineering, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe concept is powered by a twin-turbocharged engine based on the 260kW/400Nm naturally aspirated 3.8-litre V6 petrol unit from the North American market’s Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec.

Designed to be as reliable as a street car but with the “outrageous power” of a full-tilt racing car, the concept is finished in custom Electric Blue paint and features a carbonfibre bonnet and bootlid and a stainless steel exhaust.

Under-bonnet modifications include steel connecting rods, forged pistons, new camshafts and an intercooler while the rest of the car has been treated to a roll cage, racing seats and harnesses, coil-over suspension and white 20-inch aluminium wheels.

The next-generation Hyundai Genesis Coupe – stylistically previewed by the Hyundai HND-9 concept at the 2013 Seoul motor show – is due to reach Australia in 2015.

The 2013 SEMA show kicks off at the Las Vegas Convention Centre from November 5.
