2014 SRT Viper TA to cost more than $120,000; ‘rain mode’ added

The hardcore 2014 SRT Viper TA looks set to command a circa-US$116,000 ($124,000)price tag according to US reports, slotting it between the entry-level Viper and flagship GTS in the North American market.

Chrysler spokesman Dan Reid confirmed the estimated price to Edmunds, saying exact pricing would be announced "by the end of the month".

Powered by the new Viper’s 477kW/813Nm 8.4-litre V10 engine, the street-legal Viper TA (Time Attack) is designed as an extreme track-focused variant intended to appeal to performance enthusiasts.

Despite its aggressive intentions, SRT has decided to update the entire Viper range for 2014 (including the TA) with a new ‘rain mode’ to make the rear-wheel-drive muscle car easier to handle on cold or wet roads.

Part of an expanded multistage electronic stability control system, rain mode will be added to the on/off settings of the SRT Viper and the on/off/sport/track settings of both the TA and GTS.

Also new on the 2014 version of the fifth-generation Viper are three new colours: a matte black finish dubbed Anodized Carbon, Billet Silver and Viper GTS-R Blue. Viper TA models are available in Venom Black, Bright White, and of course, TA Orange.

The starting price of the 2014 SRT Viper has been increased US$2000 to US$99,395 ($106,400) with the GTS remaining at US$121,895 ($130,500).
