Nissan GT-R Nismo: ‘ultimate GT-R’ spied at the Nurburgring

The hardcore Nissan GT-R Nismo has been spied lapping Germany's Nurburgring ahead of its anticipated Tokyo motor show unveiling in November.

Based on the 404kW/628Nm all-paw Nissan GT-R, the GT-R Nismo – named for the car maker’s official high-performance division – can be seen with a new front bumper, lower, ventilated chin spoiler, deeper side skirts and a monster rear wing.

Wearing lightweight forged Rays wheels and making no effort to hide its ‘GT-R’ badges, the Nismo prototype has a new rear bumper with extra gill-like air outlets and a redesigned and restyled exhaust system. New-look LED tail-lights also appear to be part of the package.

Inside, we can see more aggressive bucket seats with red trim inserts and larger racing harness cut-outs.

The existing GT-R’s twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V6 engine will remain under the Japanese supercar’s ventilated bonnet, however, it’s tipped to produce closer to 440kW and have less weight to shift than the current 1699kg road car.

Already claiming 0-100km/h in 2.7 seconds in standard trim, early reports suggest the GT-R Nismo could reach the three figure-mark in a mere 2.0 seconds. If realised, it would be enough to see the Nismo beast become the fastest-accelerating production car in the world, ahead of even the Bugatti Veyron (2.46sec).

Confirmed to start production in 2014 as the flagship of the Nismo model range – which will include a 370Z Nismo and Juke Nismo, among others – the car that Nissan says will become “the ultimate GT-R for the road” is currently under assessment for our market.
