Mazda celebrates small car sales milestone
March 4, 2009 by Matt Brogan
The Mazda3 today continued its impressive start to its Australian sales year by notching up a total figure of 2989 units for February.
This figure has helped Mazda achieve another great milestone with February seeing the brand bring about combined sales of 400,000 units of the Mazda 323 and Mazda3 models since first going on sale in 1978 (238,722 and 161,310 for 323 and Mazda3 respectively).
“This 400,000 milestone is a remarkable achievement which speaks to Mazda’s long-term commitment to deliver good value, fun-to drive small cars,” said Mazda Australia’s Managing Director, Doug Dickson. “For the Mazda3 to be selling so well just two months out from the new-generation Mazda3 launch is outstanding and we couldn’t be happier. What a fitting way to say farewell to a car that, since its arrival five years ago, has been a firm favourite with Australian consumers.
“The new-generation Mazda3 is even sportier, more spirited and more refined. It’ll have Dynamic Stability Control on all models, and luxury features like satellite navigation standard on half of the range. It’s this mix of value and offering new car buyers the benchmark value for money they expect of a Mazda.”

After the unveil of new Mazda 3 the figure may go more impressive. However, the financial crunch may bite away the excitement.
Hope Mazda will be sensible with pricing their new baby in the face of the crunch.
(will help me at least, -) … coz I am waiting since infinity to buy a new car and nothing looked like a perfect car…. May be this one.)
There have been a few 323s scattered through our family’s car history, as well as some other Mazdas. All have been solid, reliable cars with no major malfunctions.
And my brother recently bought a new 3, so he can look forward to many years of reliable, enjoyable motoring.
I have owned 16 Mazdas in 29yrs and have NEVER had one bit of trouble extremely happy and very loyal…..great job Mazda.
Finally the Corolla has been knocked off it’s small car perch, let’s hope it stays that way
Whats the best price of a new mazda 2 auto I can buy now in Melbourne and surrounding areas? Possibly 3 doors. Live in Werribee. But want the best price so I want one asap.
