The new version, based on the new Avensis platform, will do without the “Corolla” part of its name, and will simply be called Verso.

Its wheelbase grows by 20mm, and has 70mm more overall length.

Gosh… It’s really amazing how dull Toyota’s designs are becoming these days.
Most refridgerators are displaying more captivating designs at your local ‘Hardley Normal’ store…
Simply putting clear tail lights on a squashed HiAce just doesn’t do it for me I’m sorry.

  2. Scotto says:

Are you looking at the same picture, can’t see anything that looks remotely like a squashed hilace.

Size wise its about the same as the old corolla wagon.

  3. KC says:

    New from Toyota: Bland.

Its even in toyota silver. Dear god can they be any more boring.

  4. Simonsez says:

Looks fine to me. Can’t understand why they wouldn’t sell really well over here given the chance. Unless you’re in the target demographic for this type of vehicle your opinion is actually irrelevant to Toyota.

  5. anonymous says:

Why is it everytime, a new Toyota model comes out, you get the same old Toyota bashers here. Its really getting out of hand..I think imo, all the other brands are also designing bland and boring cars. If this car did not have a Toyota badge on it, it probably would not be criticized like this.

  6. Wheelnut says:

Looks like Toyota are trying to make the Corolla look more like the Mazda 2 [rear] the Honda Jazz [profile] and the Hyundai i30 [front] – cars that are gradually closing the gap to the Corolla in an attempt to try and remain the biggest selling hatchback.

  7. Bavarian Missile (.)(.) says:

Hey Anonymous, seems Toyota is boring and bland and over rated to most car enthusiasts,I cant say the guys above you are regulars so perhaps they to are just true car enthusiasts……………….

  8. Anonymous says:

Bavarian Missile – so the classic 90s Toyota performance cars are bland and boring? Such as Toyota Supra, Soarer, MR2 just to list a few.

  9. Bavarian Missile (.)(.) says:

Mate Toyota dont mate classic cars, a classic car is collectible !

  10. Wheelnut says:

Dan-onymous says: “so the classic 90s Toyota performance cars are bland and boring? Such as Toyota Supra, Soarer, MR2 just to list a few.”

Ok then let’s do a quick poll and see shall we…?
Which car would a real car enthusiast pick:

    Toyota Supra vs Nissan GT-R?
    Toyota Soarer vs Nissan 300ZX?
Toyota MR-2 vs Honda S2000 or Mazda MX-5
Toyota Celica vs Honda Integra Type-R
Toyota Celica GT-4 vs Mitsubishi Evo/Mitsubishi 3000GT or Subaru Impreza WRX STi?

  11. Cupid Stunt says:

A Nonny Mouse – that was back in the 80’s. Style has moved on from then.

  12. Truly not a bad effort….but still not grabbing one by scruff of neck for style as still out and out washing machine design quality!

  13. Dlr1 says:

since when has any minivan not been boring… they all are. Even quirky old citroen cant make one look remotely interesting visually.

  14. Anonymous says:

    Wheelnut- how about:

    2jz vs rb26
    1jz vs rb25

A true car enthusiast would think like this; engine, drivetrain>exterior design

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying other brands arn’t good, I’m just saying Toyota deserves some credit too.

  15. Wheelnut says:

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link and whislt Toyota happen to have one or two good engines or gearboxes.

Toyota tend to work on a car in sections and then hope that it all comes together [could explain why alot of them look like they were designed by a committee].

Whereas other manufacturers look at the overall picture.

The equivalent vehicles from Mitsubishi Nissan Honda and Subaru are more of a “complete” package.. than those from Toyota

[I won't mention the Germans - that would be embarrassing]

So whilst the 1Jizz or 2Jizz engine is a potent little performer Toyota don’t match the other components such as brakes or suspension to it as well as the others do.

  16. Bavarian Missile (.)(.) says:

Wheelnut dont get drawn into another Toyota debate its all been said before anyway.

I think we have answered Dan-Anonymous,his first question was was the same old Toyota bashers get on here ? That question was answered.

So back on the topic what does he think of the Verso ? Bland and boring like the rest of us !

  17. Wheelnut says:

For those of you who are interested; Verso means “backwards” which going by the looks of this car is where Toyotas designers are heading..

Whilst most manufacturers [including Volvo] are coming out with cars that have natural flowing curves etc making them look more attractive even classier
Toyota appear to be leaning towards more boxy cars with sharp lines and edges which makes them look cheap; tacky

Compare this to the new Fiesta or Hyndai I30 for example

  18. Kit says:

Oh my god !!! The face is like Yaris + Yaris Sedan + avensis headlight + rav4 tail lamp… all smack together!!!
The design is failure.. Worst than Korean Maker…

  19. Cupid Stunt says:

    A kit car Kit

  20. Rack and Pinion says:

Toyota’s wholly-owned financial subsidiary is asking for about Y200 billion ($A3.17 billion), according to Japanese media. The carmaker has said it is seeking aid but declined to confirm the amount.

So to all you Toyota lovers ……….You were WRONG ! I was RIGHT ! The financial side AND carmaking side of Toyota are seeking Gov money.

  21. Rack and Pinion says:

Christ……what a dogs arse ugly car…….is Verso Japanese for grotesque looking? Toyota make the ugliest cars !

  22. I agree Toyota morph design cues off Corolla, Prius, Yaris and Camry onto its future designs as its having trouble designing new and exciting as too based on previous models within there range. About as exciting as watching grass grow! Lift the bar Toyota!

  23. opel says:

“Toyota’s wholly-owned financial subsidiary…The financial side AND carmaking side of Toyota are seeking Gov money.” – Halfwit

Well, if the subsidiary is wholly owned by Toyota, then that would be , wait for it..Toyota!

Honda is also apllying for money “Honda intends to seek tens of billions of yen in dollar-denominated loans from JBIC for its US financing arm, American Honda Finance Corp. The carmaker aims to build up more cash for auto loans and leases. Toyota Financial Services Corp. has also approached JBIC to procure funds for its US financing unit, Toyota Motor Credit Corp.”

Are we seeing a common thread here? To compete with the bankrupt GM and Chrysler, who are offering interest free finance, and substantial discounting due to receiving billions in taxpayers non repayable loans. all other sellers in the US are now in trouble, including Ford, who suffered a higher % decrease in sales last month than Chrysler.

We are now in a sitution where the sustainable companies are incurring losses due to the fact 2 major players are being funded by the US taxpayer.

Dimwit, it is very hard for the finance segments of all companies to borrow the money they need to help finance the sales of their vehicles. All credit ratings have been slashed and premium interest rates are being incurred.

I know you dont get this, but companies are being forced to use their own reserves to compete against 2 companies who are bankrupt and receiving billions of dolllars in taxpyer funds. If they were not still around, life would be much easier.

I feel sorrt for Ford mostly as they have done a great job in the last 3 years, all that hard work, building up of reserves, good management..all down the drain.

  24. Alan says:

whilst i agree this is not an exciting looking car, since when has MPV being good looking. I can’t think of any MPV being a good looking vehicle
