Peugeot 208 GTi Pikes Peak Edition rumoured

French car maker Peugeot is reportedly working on a special edition of the recently released Peugeot 208 GTi in recognition of Sebastien Loeb's record-crushing run at the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado.

Based on the Peugeot 208 GTi hot-hatch, the Pikes Peak Edition could reportedly launch with an extra 15-22kW for a total output of 164-171kW.

That increase in power combined with the 208 GTi’s relatively light 1160kg kerb weight should see the special edition version improve on the standard GTi’s 0 to 100km/h time of 6.8 seconds and230km/h top speed.

There’s also speculation around the car’s final moniker, but suggestions are said to include Peugeot 208 R and 208 T16 Edition.

Loeb smashed the Pikes Peak record in June by driving a specially prepared Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak over the course in a time of 8 minutes and 13.878 seconds – a full 1 minute and 33 seconds quicker than the previous record.
