Vuhl 05: Mexican supercar confirmed for November production

The Mexican-built Vuhl 05 supercar will enter production from November, as a direct result of interest generated at its public debut at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Seen at Goodwood tackling the event’s iconic 1.87km-hillclimb with Mexican Formula One rookie Esteban Gutierrez at the wheel (pictured top), the Vuhl 05 made a “sufficient” start to the company’s goal of accruing 20 orders for its top-spec ‘Edition One’ model.

Vuhl director Guillermo Echeverria said with the serious enquiries already received from the UK, central Europe, USA and Mexico, production will commence from November with first deliveries planned for March 2014.

“We could not have wished for a better response,” Echeverria said.

“It is clear the car is just as appealing to those wanting an ultra-cool car for the road as the serious track-day enthusiasts seeking an alternative to the offerings of more established manufacturers."

Asked whether the roadster would be joined by a coupe version in future, or if the car could lead to a one-make race series, Echeverria only replied, “The answer is ‘watch this space’, for anything is possible.”

Combing a 213kW/420Nm turbocharged 2.0-litre Ford EcoBoost engine and a six-speed manual transmission, the 725kg rear-wheel drive Vuhl 05 claims 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 245km/h.

Created by brothers Iker and Guillermo Echeverria, the Vuhl 05 program is funded by both the Mexican Government and private enterprise.

To be sold initially in the UK and North America priced from £55,000 ($95,000), the supercar’s next public appearance is planned for the Salon Prive in London on September 4.
