2014 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible: 318kW muscle car facelift shown

A refresh of the fifth-generation Camaro first seen in 2009, the new 2014 Camaro Convertible follows on from the New York auto show reveal of the fixed-roof Camaro coupe and Camaro Z/28.

Up front the facelift includes new single-unit headlights, a wider lower grille and a narrower upper grille, while the rear gains a new deck lid and diffuser and single-unit horizontal tail-lights that replace the previous model’s quad design.

Revised front and rear bumpers also join a new bonnet carried over from the coupe, which features a central vent aimed at reducing under-bonnet temperatures and improving aerodynamic lift. Shown in both European and North American specification, the yellow Euro-bound car has clearly larger wing mirrors than the sleeker units seen on the US-spec blue car.

Powered exclusively in Europe by the existing 6.2-litre V8 engine, offered with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission, the unit produces 318kW at 5900rpm and 569Nm at 4600rpm. Chevrolet claims a 0-100km/h time of 5.4 seconds for the manual convertible – 0.2sec off the manual coupe’s 5.2sec.

Inside, a new colour heads-up display debuts, along with a seven-inch high-resolution touchscreen incorporating the latest version of Chevrolet’s MyLink infotainment system and a reversing camera. Chevrolet says that through MyLink users are able to access phone books, personal playlists and photo galleries from compatible smartphones via the connected radio. Bluetooth and USB/AUX connectivity also joins voice recognition and text-to-speech capability.

The new Camaro is due to start arriving in European showrooms in late 2013, priced from 39,990 euro ($59,550) for the coupe and 44,990 euro ($67,000) for the convertible.
