Mercedes-Benz GLA45 AMG: performance crossover spied

CarAdvice's spies have photographed prototypes of the Mercedes-Benz GLA45 AMG just days after official images and details of the regular crossover were released.

The AMG version of the new Mercedes-Benz GLA isn't expected to go on sale until late 2014, about six months after models such as the GLA200, GLA250 and GLA200 CDI launch in Australia.

The Mercedes-Benz GLA45 AMG will share its drivetrain with the A45 AMG and CLA45 AMG performance models with which it shares its general underpinnings.

That means 265kW of power and 450Nm of torque from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, all distributed to the road via a seven-speed dual-clutch auto and all four wheels.

The spy photos show a GLA45 AMG lapping Germany's Nurburgring circuit wrapped in camouflage, though there's no disguising AMG touches such as bigger air intakes up front, bigger wheels and brakes, and quad exhaust pipes with a more aggressive-looking rear diffuser.

With Mercedes pricing the A45 AMG from $74,900, expect the GLA45 AMG to wear a price tag somewhere not too far north of $80,000.
