Hyundai i20: second-gen city car spied with less camouflage

The second-generation Hyundai i20 has been spied hot-weather testing in Germany.

Wearing less camouflage than when it was first spotted earlier this month, the Hyundai i20 prototype appears to be a larger, sportier evolution of the first-generation Hyundai Getz-replacement.

Believed to be based on an all-new platform, the five-door hatch has a more upright, horizontal grille flanked by sleeker, elongated headlights. The wide triangular fog lights of the current model make way for rectangular items dropped down into the lower half of a more aggressive front bumper.

Smaller, more upright tail-lights appear to flow into a new tailgate that features a larger, reshaped rear window and a reversing camera.

With the removal of some of the cladding, the car's shapely new rear doors and gloss-black C-pillar are also revealed, highlighting the Korean manufacturer's move away from the existing car's squarer design.

Expected to debut in late 2014, the sharper looking Hyundai i20 should arrive on local shores early in 2015.
