Audi’s latest – the Audi A6 allroad quattro

April 27, 2007 by Paul Maric

Forget your run of the mill family wagons. Forget your run of the mill SUVs and 4WDs. Audi’s all new A6 allroad quattro is a mix of both, with a potent donk to boot.

The old allroad quattro looked far too cumbersome and wasn’t authentic, it looked just like an A6 Avant with suspension trickery to increase ride height. The new A6 allroad quattro on the other hand is a different story all together. With variable air suspension (allowing up to 60mm extra lift), the allroad quattro can go from road hugging prowess to rock hopping in the time it takes most people to change radio stations.

Available with only one guise of engine (at the moment), the allroad quattro is powered by Audi’s stunning 3.0-litre turbo-diesel motor. Producing 171kW of power, the engine can lay down 450Nm of torque with a flattening of the accelerator pedal. The best part is that the allroad weighs in at well under two-tonnes – 1.8-tonnes to be precise, ensuring swift performance from the motor.

Audi’s managing director, Joerg Hofmann, says the new A6 allroad quattro is a popular vehicle with a loyal customer base.

“The second generation of the A6 allroad quattro will be sought out by customers who want authenticity and performance, knowing they possess the ability to escape from the urban jungle, whilst maintaining an appreciation of style, quality and workmanship,” Mr Hofmann said.

“This new model exists in a very popular niche with those customers who find themselves wanting all-terrain flexibility but don’t need a vehicle quite as rugged as an SUV.”

As Joerg mentioned, the A6 allroad quattro is in its own niche with no visible competition from its German sparring partners – Mercedes and BMW. Volvo on the other hand – who Audi refuse to accept as viable competition – will have a new V70 model available, along with an XC70 closer to the end of the year, spelling a possible end to Audi’s niche domination.

A set of rear LED lights ensure that maximum visibility is available with each and every braking application. They also look extremely attractive, giving the A6 allroad quattro that unique style.

Audi’s latest, the A6 allroad quattro will be available from $106,000 and has an extensive options list to keep most consumers busy.

I think that the Allraod is a far more attractive and more practical prestige cross-over vehicle than any of its competitors including its big sister the Q7

  3. Neo Utopia says:

Very nice indeed! I wish i had the funds to own one right now though, maybe latter when i am a qualified profession earning >$75,000 a year.

This car is way too much overpriced. new Volvo V70 AWD T6 is a better choice/value in almost every way, well, except for the badge, if you care.
