Mini’s marketing team has joined the long line of those poking fun at New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner following news of his latest sexting episode.
A brand renowned for its imaginative social media activity, Mini USA’s marketing agency Butler, Shine, Stern and Partners created the Twitter account @CarlosDMotor, sending up Weiner’s alias, Carlos Danger, with a note on its profile page explaining: “Danger is my middle name”.
The sole post from the account features an image of a Mini Cooper in a bathroom dressed in a towel accompanied by the message, “Wanna get your hands on my stick?”
The unfortunately named Weiner resigned as a congressman in 2011 after admitting to sending explicit images of himself to young women, and returned to headlines earlier this month after again admitting to sending similar images to three other women.
In a blow to his election chances, Weiner’s campaign chief, Danny Kedem, announced his resignation on July 27.
The scandalous candidate insists he will continue to run for the position of New York City mayor despite the controversy and widespread criticism.
