Honda Mean Mower: world’s fastest lawn mower does 0-100km/h in 4sec

Honda UK and its British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) partner Team Dynamics have teamed up to create what is being spruiked as the world's fastest lawn mower.

Dubbed the Mean Mower, the Honda HF2620 Lawn Tractor-based machine retains its original look and still cuts grass, but is claimed to do 0-100km/h in 4.0 seconds and reach an estimated top speed of 209km/h – all at 130db.

Combining an all-new custom-made chromoly chassis, a fibreglass cutter deck and the engine from a Honda VTR 1000F Firestorm motorbike, the 140kg Mean Mower puts out 80kW and 96Nm - making it 7kW more powerful than an entry-level 1075kg Honda Jazz.

The ride-on mower also features suspension and wheels from a Honda ATV, a custom paddle-shifted six-speed transmission, a Scorpion exhaust system, a Morris Minor steering rack and a Cobra sports seat.

Team Dynamics team manager Pete Crolla said tackling a project like the Mean Mower involved several challenges.

“One of the key challenges is that this has never been done before, to our knowledge, and so there are few learnings to call upon.

"From an engineering perspective, retaining the look of the mower, and the ability to still cut grass were the biggest challenge."
