By Matt Brogan |

The new Mazda MX-5 has gone on show at the Melbourne International Motor Show this morning headlining a host of cosmetic, mechanical and ergonomic upgrades.

To be offered in both soft-top and folding hard-top, the new MX-5 will arrive in Mazda showrooms from mid-March.

The manual MX5 at MIMS had a redline of about 7200, not the 7500 that has been widely claimed, and that I have noticed on the Japanese adverts. The staff at the stand were at a loss to explain it. Are we getting a different engine spec from what is available in Japan?

There is a 7500rpm rev limiter, but the red line is at 7200rpm. That means you have 300rpm of over rev.
