2009 Mazda MX-5 at MIMS
February 27, 2009 by Matt Brogan
The new Mazda MX-5 has gone on show at the Melbourne International Motor Show this morning headlining a host of cosmetic, mechanical and ergonomic upgrades.
To be offered in both soft-top and folding hard-top, the new MX-5 will arrive in Mazda showrooms from mid-March.
Featuring a 118kW MZR 2.0-litre, the MX-5 has had an increase in the rev limiter to 7500rpm.
The MX-5 retains its rear-wheel-drive arrangement via a six-speed manual or optional six-speed activematic (auto) transmission with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters.
The Roadster Coupe will also be made available with an optional Sports Pack that adds Recaro sport seats, BBS alloy wheels to the already impressive standard feature list.
That list includes a 200W Bose premium stereo system (with auxiliary jack), cruise control and air-conditioning.

When are they going to build an MX5 that dosn’t look like your driving your wife’s car around?
LOL, my thoughts exactly Andronicus.
Does anybody Know how many they sold in Australia last year?
639 MX-5s were sold in Australia in 2008
u trully are the Mazda Guru
The manual MX5 at MIMS had a redline of about 7200, not the 7500 that has been widely claimed, and that I have noticed on the Japanese adverts. The staff at the stand were at a loss to explain it. Are we getting a different engine spec from what is available in Japan?
