2009 FPV F6 E Concept at MIMS

February 27, 2009 by David Twomey

Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) has today added to its flagship range of executive performance Ford’s with the release of an all-new concept, the F6 E.

Mating the raw power of the turbocharged F6 with the luxury of the newly introduced ‘E’ specification, the F6 E has been designed to satisfy calls from the market for more performance based executive vehicles.

Powered by the proven 4.0-litre turbo-charged DOHC 24 valve in-line six, the F6 E produces maximum power of 310kW at 5500 rpm and 565Nm across the range from 1950 to 5200 rpm.

“With the success of the new F6 and GT E, it was a natural progression to couple the performance and dynamics of F6 with the more subtle executive styling, luxury and comforts of the GT E.” Ford Performance Vehicles General Manager Rod Barrett said.

“With the release of this concept we will test the market’s reaction before deciding whether or not to put the F6 E into production,” Barrett added.

“Feed back from our customers leaves us confident that the F6 E will be a hit with those looking for something more from their performance vehicle.”

The new F6 E features the ZF six-speed high-torque automatic transmission with Sequential Sports Shift as standard and boasts a fuel economy figure of 12.1L/100km.

The F6 E receives a Brembo performance brake package as standard, with 355mm cross-drilled and ventilated front rotors with six-piston callipers up front and 330mm cross-drilled and ventilated rear rotors with 4-piston callipers at the rear.

The styling of the F6 E has been subdued with colour coding of the “racoon-eyes”, chrome accents and a refined lip spoiler replacing the large rear wings found on the other models.

The F6 E is available in a subtle exterior palette of eight colours – Winter White, Silhouette, Lightning Strike, Velvet, Sensation, Steel, Ego, and Seduce.

Inside the cabin, the F6 E features luxury performance seats in shadow leather with the F6 E logo embossed on the headrests and a dark walnut woodgrain finish on the dashboard as well as the doors.

The interior is packed with features to ensure a premium driving experience, including a sports leather steering wheel with cruise control and audio mounted switches, dual zone temperature control air conditioning, front and rear power windows, and memory adjustable pedals with alloy pedal controls.

If FPV does decides to make the F6 E available to the public – which does seem likely – target pricing for the F6 E would be $78,190.

WOW very very nice. Great looking rocket. No other Aussie car has an engine as good as this…….makes HSV Senator look like it stuck in 1970. The interior has something no Holden or HSV has ………quality.

If i wanted a boring car id buy a camry. Why cant ford design something that appeals. Exterior is bland and “toyota’ish” and the interior plain ugly. That center consold just doesnt work. Curves then a straight line in front of the gear leaver? Silver paneling and plastic woodgrain that should have been left in the 70’s. This is why Holden sell more cars even though ford has the better 6’s, gearboxes and rear ends. Mechanically they are in front (except for their V8’s) but the cars have no passion.

I agree with the silver/plastic woodgrain panelling, I’m not a fan.

my mate has the new f6, its a great drive and looks great.

Uglyness……..was your guide dog asleep when you “looked” at the pictures? VE dash..HSV dash….is the worst quality dash ever put in a car. Cheap plastics, horrible ergonomics and that f***ing finger jamming handbrake. As far as the body styling goes thr FG looks coherent and flowing not like the dog ugly 1970’s pregnant wheel arches of the Commode. Open your eyes or wake up your guide dog before you make silly comments ……

Advice to Ford. Ditch the cheap silver plastic, the clear tail-lights, plastic wood-grain and the Ford Badge and charge an extra 20 grand! Sad reality is, not many private buyers want to own a car derived from an XT their sales rep best mate gets to drive for free as a company car. Few people want to own a car built by a brand thats on the verge of bankruptcy and I’m pretty sure nowone wants to buy a car that when it comes time to sell will only be marketable to some hoody in Frankstone who’ll only give you 35% of its purchase price! My deepest sympathies to Ford. To quote one disgruntled Ford dealer “the Ford brand is dead”

GT-43 You are right who would want to buy a car from a company who is nearly bankrupt? Its is GM\Holden who are nearly bankrupt NOT Ford. Dont you read the news about GM getting billions to just keep them going? And they just lost another 9.5 billion in the last quarter !! BYE BYE GM AND BYE BYE HOLDEN

I can’t beleive what i read sometimes when it comes to FPV and HSV.
People think it’s not ok for FPV to start with an XT and turn it into something wild but they are happy with eg. BMW to sell glorified 335’s that started it’s life as a 320.
Not comparing BMw to ford but what iam saying is every manufacturer does it.

Stevo the Devo. Will it be half the price of its European rivals when you factor in depreciation and fuel economy? Anyway I think I’ll stop Ford bashing now I just needed to vent. Ford is a company with a brilliant history (I’m thinking Le Mans, model T, Fordism production) and they make brilliant cars, its just a shame they don’t know how to sell them (I’m thinking resale crushing discounts, reliance on fleet sales, marketing emphasis on V8 Supercars).

The tax payers of the U.S have become SICK of pouring THEIR
hard earnt dollars into keep G.M alive. This financial situation G.M is in WILL flow onto HOLDEN/H.S.V.
Notice FoMoCo hasn’t asked for or needed any of THAT money!
Like the Falcon, F.P.V is a better vehicle than H.S.V!

nice and looks interesting. very stylish exterior. I pity the people who say the interior looks ugly, clearly the holden looks cheap and outdated (depsite being only a couple of years old). the fords have a classy euro interior approach which appeals to a larger audience. Although their sales havnt been as good, the are overall a better car. better engineered, superb chassis, safe too, fantastic engines (although the ford v8 is not as strong as the holden, this is understandable because holden use a larger cc engine. more than half a liter bigger explains why the holden can pull better) and absoltely fantastic transmissions. Ford are more bold in their choices, but in the end they do it right. holden just released a new but-ugle car, the cruze. who is going to buy that heap, just looks like the old epica which was crap too.
BESIDES FORD WILL BE AROUND FOR LONGER THAN GM, THEY HAVE ACTUALLY THOUGHT ABOUT THE FUTURE FOR CHANGING AND REALISING THAT BIG CARS ARE NOT WHAT THE WORD NEEDS.
      GO FORD!

I have to come clean I had no idea what a GT 43 was when I chose the name I just figured a name doesn’t really matter so I put down the first thing that came to mind. GM isn’t nearly bankrupt they technically are, they’re only chance of survival is a govt bailout otherwise its chapter 11 for them. Ford have about a quarters worth of cash reserves left so if sales don’t pick up immediately they’ll be in the same boat as GM (paraphrasing The Economist as opposed to auto websites). This is very sad, I feel for the workers. It breaks my heart to see so many people laid off because a few out-of-touch execs failed on timing and marketing. The FG Falcon is a world class car. It’s dynamic, technologically advanced, well built, well powered stylish and unbelievably good value (attributes commonly seen in popular profit making vehicles such as the Accord Euro, Subaru Liberty and BMW 3 series) – so why is its main marketing channel a loud, obnoxious, polluting motorsport? In an age when fuel economy, Co2 emissions and safety are key drivers of new car sales I couldn’t think of a worse way to market a large car. Sure V8 Supercars are hugely popular but alot of people that attend race meets only go to see a crash! Don’t get me wrong I understand there are thousands of genuine holden and ford fans but relative to the car buying public these people are in the minority. When the FG was released it was widely hailed as the VE’s better so why undercut Holdens price? What a great way to communicate confidence in your product! I can’t keep quiet on this one guys the issue is too important.

The F6E looks great and I’m sure will be as good as the other Ford FG series which are excellent. I have the FG XR6, it is fantastic.
For all the GMH fans commenting above, who has won the last three Bathursts? Ford!
Also, which car company uses Daewoo’s (Korean crap!!)for many of its models? GMH!
And finally what is the Bogan car of choice?…Commodore!

No one bothered to point out to GT-43 that there is no Ford badge on that car? It seems that a lot of people in this country prefer to purchase a car based just on what that badge says rather than the merit it deserves. People in europe are not so narrow minded and as a result drive a market that demands the best. In recent years Ford has brought their product up to a level that deserves the praise it receives but unfortunately in Australia that counts for little.

now, to be serious, this car is on sleek looking piece of machinery, and having the f6 engine will mean it is no sloth, im sure this car would just about beat anything on our Australian road, and alot of overseas stuff aswell.

And people going on about Ford going broke, they havn’t needed one bail-out yet, but GM have needed 2!!.

Here is my take on the F6E…

This is a car, that if feedback is needed in the market, the car has to be approached from many angles

      Firstly

Demographic, here in Australia, as the europeans and Japanese are bringing out more horsepower and safety technology and this and that, Ford (FPV) will need to compete with that. They dont have to bring out 400kW plus, or lane departure warning systems, but they are simply in the league of cars that have this or readily offer it, no way around that.

So the car is best bang for buck performance wise, but then people, who love power also in this day and age, expect a little more too, sat nav, sunroof as standard etc… I’m thinking nav is an option (not standard)? and s.roof not even available ?? (FG design constraint etc, read below)

Now, having said the car buyers are anyone, no longer bogan rednecks who just love V8’s, these are guys and girls, who’ve just gotten full license straight through to retirees who can enjoy their successes in life with such a wonderful machine.

      Features
      ——–
The car should have more (sure pricing reflects what you get, best engine ever produced in Oz etc)… but it should have more, Xenon lights for instance (should be standard let alone an option) – On a top of the range toyota ‘corolla’ it is standard, a dam front wheel drive underpowered car. What the??

again, time and day we live in 2009, not 2001.

Build quality well its v.good (I havent seen HSV) but then I have no intention to..

What about pleasing LED tailights… Ever seen the HSV clubsport r8 from behind, thats a nice look, here this F6E has silver lined tail lights from many lower models…

      Design Constraints
      ———————
The F6 (I’ve noticed) and correct me if this isn’t so….follows on the basic FG base very closely….sure we add leather or new “insets”…but Ford should change this around for their elite models…..
Add a sunroof in the premium cars…sure NCAP was earned by a car that did not give any sunroof on any of the models in the FG range coming out of the factory…
In the rear (middle) there is no headrest, all the base models, XR etc dont have it, but if this is the icing on the cake model, put this in…
      —-

Basically, the car is an engineering masterpiece, an aussie built car that is taken head to head with a Nissan GTR and get this Porsche 997 – GT2 (wheels magazine March or April 2009, I cant remember the month) OMG… A ford being compared to a $450,000 car and not doing to bad at all – ford 4stars, porsche – 4.5 stars….

But if you put in the small things that go the long way, then that “people in australia who buy cars judged on badges and not the true merit” will eventually turn around, the apple doesnt fall too far from the tree

We dont need to add lane departure warning, panoramic glass roofs or radar governed cruise control,

but if we add xenons, led lights, head rests, sunroof, etc, then you cant really find any faults etc with the car – look at the massive brembos, the wonderful paint choices available, the car is on to a great start, and doesnt have to go too much further to be an awesome finish.

Go Ford. Bring this car out and just tidy it up, give it a new suit, a new pair of shoes, and jus a designer hair trim, dont loose weight or change the cologne….. tidy it up, and it will really be in that VIP crowd…. I can only imagine what journalists would say…..crikey, we’ve trumped the europeans and Japanese..
