It is so easy to get outdated information on these i-net sites.

I think Ethanol has a huge role to play in replacing fossils.

A new Australian discovery that enables alcohol to be obtained from cellulose, with Algae and household rubbish (& sewerage) to be used as the feed stock, is a brilliant new direction in sustainabiliy.

Residue from algae can also be used as a stock suppliment and fertilizer to remineralise from agri-mining (ie. where the minerals are stripped out of the soil and flushed out to sea in sewerage). The algae requires huge amounts of CO2 from the atmosphere (ie. NOT from fossil & coal fired power stations, as some suggest!) and can be grown in sea water, that is where most the minerals come from.

This is a far better prospect than the further rape of countryside of its organic matter and minerals and competition with food markets.

I think: Solar (generated) Electric first (say 60km+), with Alcohol or Bio Diesel Range Extending generators, are the way to go in Aus....am I wrong?

PS. Bio Diesel can also be made from algae!

i dont think Mr american professors findings can be true. In Brazil nearly 80% of the vehicles run on either E85 or 100% ethanol, and they have actually found the air quality to be higher. So im gonna go on real results and not some study by some American.

The old QLD GOV Peter Beatie really wanted all fuel to have at least 5% of ethanol, He didn't know that it's not his job to do that.
To Me Ethanol is bullsh!t because I'm a classic car person and can't use that in old cars with the carbys when it can damage th motor

The automobile industry is becoming bigger and bigger. Every year, we have new models released in the market. But then, aside from vehicle safety, it's also important to consider how these cars contribute to the environment. More so, in purchasing cars, consideration on the gas price is a necessity. Japan is most famous for compact cars due to their effective fuel consumption. These days, gateway to online Japan used car sales was made available. This means more quality-made cars that are fuel-eco at the same time.

The reason "we" are bothering is that a sh1t load of suger from australia currently goes to use in the ethanol production, its great business to tell the public that not only is it safe, but it also supports the "Struggling Aussie Farmers"

Plus the main stream media have been behind ethanol for a while now.

I dont know why they are bothering with Ethanol... its the lesser of two evils IF that (going off that article). And realistically we already have hybrid cars going around which consume little fuel AND hydrogen cell cars which consume water. By the time Ethanol is properly introduced in countries these other better forms will be in place, for eg Hondas hydrogen cell car I believe will be on sale in the states by 2008 or so, and that IS an environmentally friendly option.
