2009 HSV Senator Limited Edition at MIMS
February 27, 2009 by Matt Brogan
Holden Special Vehicles has released a limited edition Senator to coincide with the 2009 Melbourne International Motor Show.
The Senator nameplate, which stretches back to the VP Senator in 1992, will maintain its purpose in the ‘luxury-performance’ market while adding the exclusivity of a Limited Edition run to this heritage.
“Our Senator Signature model has introduced a whole new range of customers to the HSV brand and reminded existing customers what luxury-performance is all about,” said HSV Managing Director Phil Harding. “Today’s release of the E-Series Senator is designed to appeal to customers seeking the performance our company is renowned for in a subtle – yet identifiably HSV – package, with a very attractive price point.”
The Senator comes with leather onyx seats – featuring the Senator logo embossed on the front and rear headrests – as standard and is available in Heron, Sting, Phantom, Nitrate, Karma, Voodoo and Evoke.
It is powered by HSV’s LS3 317kW V8 engine, with HSV performance suspension and rides on 19-inch billet silver Senator wheels over silver brake callipers incorporating the black HSV logo.
The Limited Edition Senator is priced from $69,990 (RRP) with just 30 manual and 59 auto examples to be produced.

I’m a big holden fan but I do not like this.
I looks very “standard” for something that is supposed to be a special limited edition.
The two tone does not work and the rims are very plain.
The front end is also too soft.
I am sure the interior and the performance will be great but the exterior design team must have been on holiday.
hideous!
YUK…….two tone exterior? Very ordinary effort. FPV GT-E and F6-E spank this. VE looks old……
Holden clutching at straws. Smacks of desperation from a once key player struggling to retain any relevance in the market place.
Just looks like one of those amegas from the front that there giving away for $29,990 with all the extras added very old and dated looking nothing speacial here but the high price
Red? what were they thinking! Good way to turn a $60K plus car into a $30K one
OK, I’m a Holden fan but how is this different from a Senator Signature or the SV08 which they released last year?
Come on HSV!!
Sorry just checked the HSV Website, it doesn’t have MRC.
Very disappointing.
The two tone is disgusting.
And if it is limited edition, why is it cheaper than the normal senator
two tone? bleh! disgusting! looks like Porsche have a challenger for the laziest exterior designers…what were they thinking? stinks of cost cutting!
Yay, another HSV Special edition. As if we nneed another one! [End Sarcasm]
What a load of BS. How many Special Editions do we need. Looks like a standard Senator imo
What a pathetic joke. F6E makes this look absolutly pathetic.
GM = gone by morning.
So pleasing to see a few of us “BAGGING” the GOD-ALL-MIGHTY
H.S.V …..for a change,so nice!
Oh look, another overpriced Holden.
Seriously, the antispam word? Ford.
Awesomeness.
Fleet special HSV ! lol Why would anyone want one of these? Another overpriced fleet special from HSV. That is so ugly. They are desperate to sell cars and they release this? FPV would be laughing at this one …..along with lots of others
Holden need to tone their attitudes not outdated Senator commodores who are they kidding, whooooops I forgot only one brand fans will buy a Holden.
Ford are better especially G6-E Turbo and don’t rely on dressing up poverty packs.
Someone help me…..
this looks the same as the last special edition senator they did. What was that one???
I think its abuse of the HSV branding to release “special” models here and there with no real reason.
anniversary models etc i can understand, but just because a motorshow is in town???
When you put this along side the fpv lux trim turbo 6 that there showing at the show, it just leaves the senator for dead in looks .The ford looks more modern and intergrated. Is it me or do hsv seem to put out it seems almost every month a limited edition thay must be always rubbing there hands together ripping there followers off
I think thay have cheapen the brand i remeber when special editions were special with good parts and were worth going after to buy .Now thay just do it as marketing tool to make quick buck.Well gess what thay are only wrecking the special edition for all there cars bye doing this and making them less desiarble
Ironic that the American crowd (in the comments) on autoblog.com are actually impressed with the car.
just took this out for a test – awesome ! I think the jealousy we see above are just the people for whom this car is way out of reach price wise. Ride is a bit soft, but cornering, road presence is amazing. Well done GMH
why are there so many people on this blog with zero spelling ability – dont think their car judgement could be valued if their education is at zero level
Jakson – the art of comprehension is the ability to ignore the noise and focus on the message.
To pik up on pples spilling mistooks insted of taking a boot the car tht the artikl is bout shows dat yuo oblivously hve no thing beta to do..
Yet eye notissed that your grandma is quyt pur as well as your punktuatin.. You started your comment with a lower-case letter; yu forget the quiztion mark and the full stop.. didn’t you?
Not to mention that sying “people with zero spelling ability” is grim matically unco erect.
I think that this is nothing more than an end of model runout spare parts bin special in the lead up to the release of the facelifted/uddated VE in a couple of months.
Its as unique as the 5th Anniversay FPV FG GT – with a couple of extra tacky stickers down the side…. wow!
O lny srmat poelpe can raed tihs.
cdnuolt blveiee taht I cluod aulaclty uesdnatnrd waht I was rdanieg. The
phaonmneal pweor of the hmuan mnid, aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy,
it deosn’t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be in the rghit pclae. The rset can be a taotl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm.
Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Amzanig huh? yaeh and I awlyas tghuhot slpeling was ipmorantt!
ah ah wheelnut the 5th anniversery falcon had new wheels
Yeah Escort – My point was there really isnt that much to make the 5th Anniversary GT that unique…. just like with this car – Different set of wheels and a contrasting colured bodykit
yeah i know thats me just joking around but with any special edition car they should at least chage the wheels.
HSV dont be so cheap this is just like the 40th ani GTS only you gave that a sticker pack and the same gose with FPV aswell.
My biggest beef is not what changes they have or havent made, but rather making a silly reason for a limited edition. MIMS edition.
Im fine With Anniversary editions that mean something to the actual brand. What next? Limited edition to celebrate a new Kelloggs cereal???
The most truly unique Australian Muscle car to come out of either camps in the recent past is the W-427
It has a number of “exclusive” features which no tother car in the HSV garage has: the 7.0 Litre V8; the wheels; the bodykit.
It doesn’t need any tacky stripes/stickers across the bonnet or a bookshelf decklid spoiler to stand out from the rest.
I know what you mean Andrew M I think most Aussie Car Enthusiasts would rather have the WPS Enhanced Bathurst Edition.
Even though you can buy a Clubbie or a GTS and get HSV to send it next door to WPS to have the suspension and srakes upgraded not to mention the supercharger bolted onto it and a range of other options like colour coded interior…
For some reason it could void the warranty Yet they send the car to the UK and the warranty is okay?
very true i personaly would not pay 150+k for it.
but the most unigue car to come of an aus production line was the Bill Bourke special XW 428 Cobra Jet falcon GT falcon.
but it was sent to america an made sepcialy for him.
Wheelnut,
with the W427 wheels…….
then they went and fitted them to something else.
I couldnt believe it when i had seen they did that. Totally ruined the exclusivity of them
I’m sure the article meant to say “powered by Chevrolet’s LS3 317kW V8 engine” not “powered by HSV’s LS3 317kW V8 engine” :P
WOW all the ford lovers are bored clearly!!! Drove both the FPV 6 and 8 in a word boring felt like a taxi yet bumpy. Drove the senator once, felt it had a special something and it does 317 of it. All owners remeber jealousy has always been fords weakness.
I JUST GOT ONE!!!!
Antispam FPV……………. “quote All owners remeber jealousy has always been fords weakness.”
Of what you ? The cars are so close it’s only really defined by choice!
You just got what ? A FPV HSV or a STD ????
So what you’re saying Brad is that your decision was based on [or influenced by] a measley 2Kw?
Given that the Senator has 317Kw as opposed to the F-6s 315Kw.. Not to mention the fact that in relation to the F6; HSV needs an extra 2 Litres and 2 Cylinders to get those extra 2 Kw.
If only HSV could get the amount of Power out of the Holden V6 that FPV do out of the I6…. Unforunately though we will have to wait for the next generation Direct Injection Twin Turbo Optimised [DITTO] V6 engine
Guys it all about personal choice the ford holden debate will rage on for me its over the senator is something special to drive its performance is electric. Its just my opion you don’t have to agree in fact i enjoy the fact you don’t
Yeah one other thing you V6 junkies the senator its a V8 growl nothing like the feel and sound of a V8 gggrrrrrr
