Subaru Exiga confirmed for Australia
February 27, 2009 by David Twomey
Subaru today confirmed the innovative and versatile EXIGA All-Wheel Drive wagon will join its Australian line-up later this year.
Unveiling a Japanese domestic-specification EXIGA at Melbourne International Motor Show, Subaru Managing Director, Nick Senior, said the six-seater family wagon will go on sale around November.
It will feature automatic transmission as standard and be powered by a normally aspirated four cylinder 2.5 litre horizontally opposed Boxer engine.
Mr Senior said: “The entry level EXIGA will include a DVD entertainment system as standard for second and third row seats.”

He confirmed EXIGA will also feature some yet-to-be revealed innovative technology.
“This will be very much a next generation Subaru vehicle and will, of course, focus on the safety, engineering integrity, durability and innovation for which we are renowned,” he said

EXIGA features a spacious cabin with sweeping dashboard, individual second row seats and a stow-away third row bench seat.
Mr Senior said the Japanese domestic specification model displayed at the Melbourne show varies from the Australian versions, but has the same exterior shape.

Australia will be the first export market for EXIGA.
Pricing will be announced at the November launch.

I guess seeing grey import used Exigas everywhere has finally spurned Subaru Australia into action.
Now for Nissan with the Skyline…
Is this the same size as a Toyota Venza?
Probably fairly safe to assume that the front of this is what the new Liberty is going to look like.
At least the australian version will get the 2.5l engine!
I was woried it would get the torqueless 2.0l that japan gets!!Should be a good little people mover with awd handling if the price isnt to high..
Supercujo
The Venza is similarly sized to a Mazda CX-7, but lower profile.
Got a good look on it while at USA last year. The Detroit Motor Show color (poo brown) didnt do it justice.
Actually looks good on black and white.
This Exiga looks more like a Liberty with raised roof height….
But why on earth would you want it? Take away the chrome, ad some dirt and it really could be ten years old. It’s ugly and horrible. I would much rather a Tribeca or better yet, not Subaru at all! I don’t think they deserve sales when they keep releasing such ugly, dated and awkward pieces of work.
That thing is horrible, how big are the wheels, 14 inch? Whats happened to this brand, they use to make nice looking cars. Apart from the soon to be replaced Liberty all their cars have been hit repeatedly with the ugly stick.
Ugly ugly ugly ugly.
Got hit by an angry mob all armed with ugly sticks.
Looks like a stretched out Liberty…. but with more ugly.
I hope this is not the Liberty/outback replacement! It looks drab and like many other station wagons
All new subaru interiors make baby kittens cry.
WHY?
Because they so ugly, its gonna be a sad day when they replace the current liberty\’s interior with this crap, I use to love subaru so much but ever since the new impreza i hate them all, apart from the current liberty. I just can\’t stand the interior.
Only thing that looks good is the bigger screen on the dash for NAV/DVD. Sits six…..ha!
looks like a liberty turned into a herse. looks disgusting
Subaru – seriously, go back to the drawing board or at least keep it in japan where folk don’t mind driving boxes
Even the dead would not be seen in it Matt!
Does Subaru need another wagon in its line-up they already have the Forester and the Liberty/Outback.?
What they need is a Ute. All they’d have to do is simply cut the roof off from the B pillar back and maybe add-on some flares etc…. voila the new Brumby;
oh subaru another foot shooting exercise, the interior looks drab uninspiring and devoid of any equipement, its got 80s style radio and a 50s style foot “handbrake” where am i going to rest my foot without gauging a hole in my left ankle?
yes matt i agree with u,a rehashed liberty to look like a hearse.
I saw this as well at MIMS, and after spending a while looking, I was still half/half on the overall look. The fact that no Turbo version wil come to Australia is abit of a disappointment, as it would bring something unique – a sporty MPV – to the AUS market. I do hope they sell a few of these though, as it does seem to be an alright car.
like everybody else, I think this is FUGLY!!!!
What? Subaru not bringing in the GT version?
No turbo, no sale.
Diesel?
