New SRT Viper GT3-R: ready-to-buy racer unveiled

A new SRT Viper GT3-R has been revealed amid all the hype and fanaticism that is the Le Mans 24 hour race.

Bred purely for racing, the similarities between the GT3-R and the current road-going version are minimal. The GT3-R has closer ties with the factory GTS-R American Le Mans Series racer in terms of its V10 engine, underpinnings, electrical hardware and aerodynamics.

The SRT Viper GT3-R, which will be eligible to compete in championships such as the FIA GT3, boasts an Xtrac six-speed sequential transmission with paddle shifters, six piston front and four piston rear brakes, and a highly efficient aerodynamic package to optimise handling.

The V10 race engine puts out 507kW, giving the GT3-R 30kW more power than the regular Viper but in a lighter body.

SRT president and CEO Ralph Gilles said development of the GT3-R, in collaboration with Riley Technologies, was the “the next logical progression of our successful Viper GTS-R”.

“There is no mistaking the similarities between the two which is a key component of this class of sports car racing”.

Gilles believes that while pertaining to the visceral appeal of the Viper, there were explicit modifications needed if the GT3-R was to be considered a real GT contender.

Riley Technologies, which boasts a number of American endurance championship wins, specialise in the design, manufacture and support of winning race cars.

Orders are now being taken for SRT Viper GT3-R, with an estimated price of US$459,000.
