Smart Australia launches online buying system

Smart Australia has introduced a new web-based purchasing platform allowing customers to buy new cars completely online.

The website prompts prospective Smart Fortwo customers to select their desired body style (Coupe or Cabrio), colour and state, and finds matches based on dealership availability.

The online purchasing system provides Smart buyers with a selection of service packages and preferred dealer delivery points before detailing on-road and delivery costs and the payment amount in full.

Customers can complete their payment with a credit card or pay a $2000 deposit and complete the balance via Bpay.

Smart also plans to add insurance and financing options to the online system in the near future.

Mercedes-Benz Australia managing director Horst von Sanden said Smart had worked closely with online automotive software developer DataMotive to develop a holistic, user-friendly system.

“We are extremely satisfied with the online platform, and since its introduction last week, four Smart cars have already been sold,” von Sanden said.

The first Fortwo purchased online will be delivered through Morrison Motors in Sydney.

Smart’s online purchasing platform follows a similar system introduced last year by Subaru Australia, which sells its BRZ sports car exclusively online.
