Volvo to announce entry into 2014 V8 Supercar Championship
Volvo will officially confirm its entry into the 2014 V8 Supercars Championship later today.
After weeks of media speculation, today's announcement will reveal the details of the deal, which will see Volvo become the fifth manufacturer in the series alongside traditional rivals Ford and Holden and fellow newcomers Mercedes-Benz and Nissan.
The V8 Supercars entry will see Volvo work closely with its global motorsport and tuning partner Polestar, as the Swedish manufacturer famous for championing vehicle safety looks to enhance the status of its performance car division intended to rival the likes of Mercedes’ AMG and BMW’s M.
Polestar founder and CEO Christian Dahl was spotted in the garage of Garry Rogers Motorsport at the weekend’s V8 Supercars round at Hidden Valley, Darwin, all but confirming the long-serving Holden team will make the switch for the start of the 2014 season.
GRM is set to unleash a team of Volvo S60 racers in next year’s series, similar to those that compete in the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship.
CarAdvice is attending the launch of the Volvo S60 Polestar today, and will update you on the latest developments as details emerge.
