The MiTo GTA Concept will star at next month’s Geneva motor show boasting not only a more aggressive appearance but also a performance upgrade which prioritises weight reduction rather than brute power.

This is in line with its trademark GTA signature which stands for Gran Turismo Alleggerito – with the final word meaning reduced weight in Italian.

Engineers have also concentrated on lowering the car’s centre of gravity, using lightweight carbon fibre on the tailgate spoiler, roof and mirror fairings while aluminium is used extensively in the braking system, suspension, and some parts of the chassis.

Designed by Fiat Powertrain Technologies, the new turbocharged petrol engine promises both impressive performance and efficiency, developing 179kW from just 1.75-litres of displacement.

The front suspension employs new geometry with aluminium leading arms, while the rear suspension has all-new bushings, coupled with an ‘active’ suspension system which counteracts the transfer of load under acceleration, stiffening the rear end and maximising traction.

  1. Masteraal says:

Thats EPIC. Awesome power in a really small car… But how it handles will be interesting… Will it be like the 8C?

  2. Forget the power, LOOK at it. It’s repulsive. From the country that brought us the funky new FIAT 500, and remembering the beautifully styled 164, the great GTVs of the ’80’s, and even the recent coupes and sporty estates – THIS COMES ALONG! Please don’t import it, PLEASE!

  3. Twilight says:

    i LOVE it!!!!!

  4. Masteraal says:

I also love it… that 3/4 rear shot… and itll be around 1100-1200 kg as well!

  5. eff1dude says:

Looks absolutely fantastic !!! If Alfa Romeo bring it to Oz, I would buy it on it’s looks alone (with the performance thrown in for good measure). Mmmmmmmm

  6. Mark says:

Will definately be considering replacing my Punto 1.9 Turbo Diesel with this little weapon.

    Love it!

  7. Brad says:

Repulsive. Small Italians used to inspire. They used to look small but sexy.

This thing looks like some design cast-off that no one wanted. Vulgar.

  8. sprae says:

Might have to start saving again…

  9. Spitfire says:

One can only assume that the designer who penned the original bug eyed Subaru Impreza and the original Subaru tribe car, oops Tribeca is now working for Alfa Romeo.

  10. GHW says:

    AWESOME !
this things so far removed from the usual Corrolazdolf same same styling it could only come from an Italian.
Come on Alfa, make the 159 replacement take 8C styling cues like this thing does, make it RWD and I’ll buy it.
BTW, those of you who think it’s ugly? style has not only bypassed you big time, taste and individuality made a b-line too!
