2010 BMW X1 SUV spied

By George Skentzos |

Update: BMW X1 Review.

The latest manufacturer to be spied testing in freezing northern Scandinavia is BMW with a heavily camouflaged X1 SUV prototype.

As its name suggests, the BMW X1 will the smallest of the brand’s SUV family, sharing its underpinnings with the upcoming MINI Crossman.

Like the Crossman, it will be a full-time four-wheel-drive and is similar in size to the Ford Kuga and Toyota RAV4 – although with a price tag match the blue and white badge.

The cabin will share the majority of its layout and appearance with the current 1 Series complete with the latest iDrive and BMW’s signature swan-necked gearlever.

Like all new BMW models, the X1 will feature the Efficient Dynamics technology – the intelligent system that utilises stop-start systems, intelligent alternator control and other green initiatives to boost economy and slash emissions.

A hybrid version is unlikely to join the range based on cost issues – expect that system, based on that already under development, to be reserved for the new 7-series.

Another pointless SUV from BMW. Makes CX-7′s and CX-9′s look cheap, they are also better cars too.

Just as long as they make it look better than the concept. It looked so awkward. I didn’t mind the back but the front just looked weird.

I really wonder about BMW some times. The X3 is horrible and this looks worse, how do they justify the cost of tooling ect for this I imagine they are still trying to recoup the cost for the X3.

I’d want one if they left the camouflage on, very funky!

You won’t be seen in the snow if you did that. Ugly too.

Part of the reason GM is in trouble is because they have a range of similar sized cars; with similar features performance etc – the only real difference being the grille.. that compete against other GM cars more than their rivals.. and it appears that is what BMW is starting to do

for example now that they have the X3 and the X6 so they should get rid of the X5

However; having said that Going from what I read in Motor Magazine BMW are also planning to introduce the “sportier” 2 series range of cars which will include a hatch a coupe and a cabriolet just like the 1 series but bigger..

When will it end? and given that just recently BMW have revealed a few Niche vehicles like the X6 when will they make a Ute?

Soon enough they will have a series from 1-8 as well as X’s from 1-8, and I do agree that they shouldn’t wear it out. They shouldn’t work on the X1 and rather work on replacing the ugly X3. Its funny, I like the car, but still think its ugly.
