When will the Crash tester's actually test the effectiveness of ESP systems instead of just checking the spec sheet?

Australian dollar is already making it hard enough for cars made in Japan and Thailand with the Thai Bart 30% depreciation and Japanese Yen Y 40% new cars are going to become more expensive. Add to that new EuroNCAP tightening the belt = Australia becoming a very expensive place to do business, of course this will drive up used car values as well. Oh well, guess the Koreans market will grow significantly if they can hold the price.

Good changes. This will definitely force manufacturers to make safer cars.

The question is, who will pay for this development and safety equipment? It will probably be bumped on to new car prices.

EuroNCAP’s new rating scheme requires all safety equipment, including ESP, to be standard on 85 per cent of volume sales and at least optionally available on every variant.

Hopefully this will force all manufacturers to change their specs for the better.

Finally an overhaul of the ratings system, and what do they do? Dumb it down by combining all 4 ratings. Dumb ratings for dumb people.
I hope that they still publish the complete data so that semi-intelligent individuals can cut through the BS to the information.

Devil, the Subaru figures droped because they didn't score real well in the pedestrian safety - doesn't make them any less safe for you as a driver/passenger, and lets face it, the pedestian who steps out in front of a car is only applying the Darwinian theory.

Ironically anti-spam: Daewoo

Fantastic!!!! We fianlly get manufacturers to start making safe cars only to be told they are not safe enough. Throw inot that the EEC4,5,6,7,8 laws comming through and the current market downturn and global situation so the public will continue with the current mind set of "yes I want the safety but I will NOT pay for it, I'd rather have fast glass & sat nav" and you will have more manufacturers making less money thus resulting in a backlash to this programme.

"Toyota with the Avensis and iQ demonstrated that car size does not stand in the way of all-round safety."

The iQ is a sub Yaris sized vehicle and the European Avensis is a Mazda6 sized vehicle. How does the statement above relate to the Avensis?
