June 9, 2006 by Alborz Fallah

Winter MotoringWith the long weekend coming up and the weather getting colder, its worth checking a few things in your car to make sure everything is going to keep on working. Although it hardly gets freezing cold here in Australia, with mornings reaching 5′C (in Brisbane), it is still recommended to take some extra precautions in the cold.

Battery:

During winter the battery has todo a lot more work, with the heater on, the wipers on, the lights on most of the time, it is important that you get your battery (and alternator) checked. Even checking the water level of the battery is a good start. Click for more information on Car Batteries

Anti Freeze:

Its important to check that there is anti freeze in your water (usually it is slightly green). Click for more information on Anti Freeze

Tyres:

Make sure tyres are inflated and have enough thread. This isn’t really a winter specific tip, but an all around tip. Tyres can save your life or kill you depending on their status so its worth your time to have them checked.

Oil Level:

Its important to make sure that under the extra winter pressure, your car’s oil level is adequote, check your oil to make sure it is full and the right colour.

Clean Windows:

Clean the Windscreen / Windshield and mirrors, make sure your windscreen wipers work and top up your washer fluid. Click for more information on Windscreens & Windshields
