2007 Holden Astra Twintop

Holden has released some details on the 2007 Holden Astra Twintop & SRi with some new improvements. The cars are powered by a 2.2-litre direct injection engine with 110kW power @ 5600 rpm and 210Nm torque @ 4000 rpm.

Holden says the new improved Astra engine will represent the first time an Astra engine has come with variable high-pressure direct fuel injection technology which will enhance its efficiency compared with multi-point fuel injection systems.

“With four body styles and choices of 1.8-litre petrol, 2.2-litre petrol, 2.0-litre petrol turbo or 1.9-litre turbo diesel engines, Astra covers a very wide range of customer needs and tastes,” GM Holden's Small Car Marketing Manager, Teresa Basile said.

From $45,500, the Astra Twintop represents a somewhat expensive choice for a European convertible (even if its badges as a Holden). Holden says that the TwinTop brings retractable hard top technology to the small convertible market at an accessible price. However Holden have obviously forgotten the brand new (and gorgeous) Volvo C30.

The Astra Twintop is availabe in either a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission, and has the ability to retract the roof in 30 seconds.

Storage capacity is compromised with the roof open with only 205 litres of storage as oppose to 440 litres when the roof is closed. However despite our bias towards the Volvo C30, the Astra does have some strong points.

Feature highlights:

  • Power retractable hard top roof with remote control
  • Electronic Stability Program (ESP®)
  • Easy load function for improved storage
  • Sports Chassis Pack
  • 17-inch alloy wheels (space-saver spare)
  • Driver, front passenger and side airbags
  • Leather faced seats (front seats heated)
  • Six disc in dash CD changer
  • Rear park assist

The 07 Astra comes in five colours to appease all buyers. You can opt out for a Power Red (solid) or if you want to have to confident look to your car, the Black Sapphire (metallic) is always a go.

There is of course the usual Silver (metallic) and for the daring, the Pannacotta Gold (metallic) will surely please. There is also the choice of the Metro Blue (metallic) which looks remarkably like the new Toyota Camry blue.

The Astra Twintop starts from $45,490 for the manual (add $2,000 for the ancient four-sped auto and $360 extra for metallic paint)
